IF YOU'RE one of those people who only gets your news from the major networks, I hope your eyes are open to the bias that is prevalent in the major media, and that includes the Associated Press. Last night, a story said "former deficit hawk Bob Dole is now proposing 15 percent tax reduction." However, do we ever hear about former pro-life governor Bill Clinton vetoing the partial-birth abortion bill, or former protester Bill Clinton sending our troops into battle? Well, you get the picture. ...

Beware of biased news

IF YOU'RE one of those people who only gets your news from the major networks, I hope your eyes are open to the bias that is prevalent in the major media, and that includes the Associated Press. Last night, a story said "former deficit hawk Bob Dole is now proposing 15 percent tax reduction." However, do we ever hear about former pro-life governor Bill Clinton vetoing the partial-birth abortion bill, or former protester Bill Clinton sending our troops into battle? Well, you get the picture. If the commentary doesn't fit their agenda, then they don't report it, and we are getting a very biased opinion on the news. If that's your only source of news, stay home on Nov. 5.

Biblical connection

THERE HAS been a lot said recently condemning certain people for being liberal. I should like to quote from the Holy Bible. "For the poor shall never cease out of the land, therefore I command thee, saying thou shall open thy hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor and to the needy in the land." Deuteronomy 15:11.

Pay raise means pay more

I WENT to my local fast-food restaurant and was informed the prices had gone up because of the increase in minimum wage. So for everyone who was for making a little bit more for hour, it looks like now you're going to have to spend that money to pay higher prices for the things you buy. That's the way it is.

No illicit sex in jails

HOW COME when you go to jail and someone comes to visit you, you're behind a Plexiglas wall and all you do is sit? But when you go to prison, as seen on the Oprah show, they are allowed to touch the families and have illicit sex, kissing and feeling of each other? I think that should not be allowed in any prison or jail, period. That is not the place and not the time to have illicit sex.

Homework and teachers

THIS IS in response to the homework issue. The point of education is to fully educate you as fully as possible. Children's minds are so able to be filled with knowledge and can be taught vast amounts in a short time. Maybe we need more quality teachers who can actually teach the children and not just read the textbooks to them. Maybe we need more teachers who have desire and dedication to teach certain subjects for the love of the subject and not just as an out because they couldn't make it in that field. This goes for all levels of schooling. Homework is a tool and not a necessity.

REPLY: This is a broad indictment of all teachers, which hardly seems fair. Many teachers have the suggested qualifications and are doing their best to teach their students.

A sad day for Americans

IT'S BECOMING increasing evident that our priorities have been turned upside down, and it's a sad day for all Americans today when the Senate can't muster enough votes to override the president's veto on the ban for partial-birth abortions.

Workers made good choices

HAVING BEEN a business manager and having had experience with union organizers, I want to compliment all five groups of employees who have voted down union representation in Cape County this past year. Your future can be much brighter if you work out your own problems with management. If you and management are both fair and honest with each other, your work will be more productive, you will be happier and your company will prosper. Remember, no union dues will be going to the union who will represent you very little. The management of all five companies should work hard to find out where all the problems are with all the voters who voted for the union and work toward making them better employees and better productive.

A great person

THERE ARE many great people in this world. In particular, the one who retrieved my purse where I left in the cart on the Wal-Mart parking lot and turned it into the desk. Whoever you are, you are appreciated more than you know. Thank you, thank you.
