Aggressor and liar

THE UNITED States can deny the bombing of Baghdad until hell freezes over. It makes us not only the aggressor but a liar as well. How much more shame will Bill Clinton bring to the office of the president of the United States?

Watts and Jackson

I WANT to direct a comment back at the person with a different approach. The caller said that at the Republican convention J.C. Watts told young blacks to study and work hard and they could be anything they want. Then at the Democratic convention, this person said, Jesse Jackson told young blacks to do nothing and they could be anything the government they wanted to be. I don't know what part of Rev. Jackson's speech that person was referring to, but I could say that that person who made this comment could do absolutely nothing and remain a racist.

GOP lowers deficit

I WOULD just like to remind everyone that the deficit is the lowest that it's been for a long, long, long time because of the Republican Congress, not because of the Democratic president. When you're in voting in November, vote for a lower deficit. Vote Republican.

Look in the mirror

I WAS reading in Speak Out about the person who was upset the third grade reader couldn't read and was upset with the second grade teacher. This person said let's focus on the real problem. Maybe this person should look in the mirror and focus on the real problem.

Something for everyone

WHOA. SLOW down the train. There's a red light ahead. President Clinton is offering something to everyone and all for nothing. We all know he can't deliver on all of his pie in the sky, a chicken in every pot promises. Who's going to pay for all of this? The taxpayers, of course. He may be changing welfare as we know it, but this will just be new and different programs. Some of us are not so gullible as to believe him. The government can't be all things to all people. This is the reason for the huge deficit we now have. This includes corporate welfare as well as all the many welfare programs.

No vouchers, please

WHAT IS Dole talking about? Give somebody a voucher where we pay for the way to go to a private school. He's been hollering socialism, he's been hollering too much government, he wants to be tight about giving everybody a fair medical treatment. So why should taxpayers foot people if they want to send their child to parochial school or private school? He goes on about how the president sends Chelsea to a private school. He does that at his own expense. What's she supposed to do, go a Washington public school to be in jeopardy? If someone wants to go to a private school, fine -- at their own expense. I sent my daughter to a private school at my own expense. You can't expect the taxpayers to pay for someone who wants a private or parochial education. It's not right. Dole accuses the Democrats of being socialistic. What do you call that?

Telling lies

AFTER SEEING the political commercials all the Democrats are now running, it makes me wonder what has happened to that party. The Democrats seem to have decided in order to get back in power, they will have to lie their way in. I disagreed with Jimmy Carter, but at least he didn't lie. Today's Democrats do nothing but tell lies about the Republicans. Bill Clinton lied his way into office in 1992. In 1996, the rest of the party seems to be following their leader.

NRA membership

WHY WAS Peter Kinder's name brought up at as a visitor at the NRA banquet and also Jo Ann Emerson? Peter Kinder is not a member of the NRA. Rick Althaus, who is a member of the NRA and has been a member of the NRA for quite some, is running against Peter Kinder for the state senator's seat. He was at the banquet and should also be mentioned that he was at the banquet and is a member of the NRA.

ANSWER: Both Althaus and Kinder are dues-paying members of the National Rifle Association

Education spending

$308,750 on signs and landscaping? Has the university gone berserk? This is why we are spending so much money. What happened to spending the money for the education of students?

No help needed

I'VE BEEN raising kids for 20 years, and I believe I've done quite well without Bill and Hillary Clinton's help.

A different view

THIS IS in response to the person who was complaining about unsolicited material under his windshield. He said it was worse to do that than to commit abortion since abortion was legal and unsolicited material wasn't. God help you, mister, if that's the way you see things.

Good financial shape

I WANTED to thank you newspaper for the Associated Press story about Jack Kemp being in good shape. I'll have to agree with that, especially his shape financially. Most of us would be happy to receive a lifetime pension exceeding $75,000. Also, Mr. Dole is reported to have a net worth of more than $2 million. So it's pretty clear that neither of these men really need the worries and so forth of running our great country.
