HOW COME they don't make people aware of the child molesters that move into town? The police are aware of it but how come they don't make the people aware of it?
REPLY: In Missouri, persons convicted of child molestation are required to register with local authorities, but there is no requirement to inform the public.
ANY MAN who would say that biting an ear is worse than rape is bound to have you-know-what for a brain.
I WOULD just like to say what an asset to Cape Girardeau Melvin Gateley is, and I wish people would all know this. On July 4, he took his time from a private holiday celebration to go up and down Westwood and I don't know what other streets and place flags in the yards of everyone, individual U.S. flags which made our street absolutely wonderful. And all the citizens on this street who live here were so proud of that American flag flying in our yard. What a wonderful act that was and I want to thank him.
MEL CARNAHAN gave a couple of lame excuses why he vetoed the partial-birth abortion plan. However the primary reason for his veto is that the abortion industry has always been one of his largest supporters. As bad as it might sound, the truth is this: Mel Carnahan has decided his political career is more important than the lives of these fully developed babies. He showed his lack of integrity when he lied about not raising taxes without the vote of the people, but his veto of the partial-birth abortion ban for political reasons is an all-time low. In recent weeks, this man has even had the gall to label his opponents on the abortion issue as extremists. Does he actually think that sucking the brains out of a fully formed baby, almost always for convenience purposes, is normal? In my opinion, any one of those poor murdered babies had more class in its little finger than a dozen Mel Carnahan's will ever have.
I'M READING the article about the city council says no to mobile homes to the Eakers. I think it's pitiful that they don't allow this. He was willing to make every effort to meet city codes, building ordinances and everything else. I just think it's outrageous.
I THINK it is interesting how Clippard School conveniently sent out the lottery results. The "lucky" letters were sent to arrive the Saturday before the school board meeting to purposely defuse the bomb of angry parents. It's my understanding the "unlucky" letters did not arrive until the Tuesday after the meeting so the angry parents wouldn't come to the meeting. I want to see some postmark dates. Anyone who has a postmark date on the "unlucky" letters, call Speak Out.
AS I was transacting some business with a bank teller, this ill-mannered person stood right beside me with great interest in what I was doing. Why don't the banks do what the larger cities do: have a line so far back from the teller, then stand up when the person in front of you is finished?
WAS DAVID Angier's quote of Councilman Barnett's correct? If it is, Barnett has forgotten one of the basic principles of our country. Citizens do have the right to question activities and actions of city officials and representative. I resent being called trash simply by exercising this right.
ON BEHALF of the 15 students who received Kiwanis Club scholarships this year, I would like to say thank you to members of the Cape Girardeau club who made this possible. All of our scholarships were for $1,000.
I WOULD like to know, why can we send a probe to Mars to find out what it's made of and the atmosphere but to this date we can't find out who hired Craig Livingstone.
I WOULD like to thank Justin Stewart for the selection of songs he sang at the band concert last week. He has such a beautiful voice and thanks for sharing some of his songs with us. I'm sure everyone enjoyed the music very much. The band concert is a nice place to spend an evening, and I know everyone enjoyed it very much.
I THINK it's a wonderful idea that Jackson wants the cable access channel to share with Cape. I think also that it would be good for the residents of Jackson to see the city council meetings and see what goes on there.
