There are limits

BOTH NEWT Gingrich and Dennis Rodman were given well deserved disciplinarian action. They both needed, this because they are alike in that each one thinks he can do he can do whatever he likes. They are dead wrong.

Another big mystery

BARKING DOG in Jackson: Why do some people who own dogs leave the dog outside to bark while they are working?

Praying for money

DON'T YOU all out there just love Pat Robertson? I watch him every day, and I just love it when he drops to his knees and prays for money.

Make arrangements

WELL, I hear that the road crews couldn't get on the job because they could not get to work. I find that quite amusing. Perhaps they should go under the umbrella of all emergency service workers -- hospital, ambulance, firefighters. If you live somewhere you can't get to work, then stay somewhere that you can. I have spent nights in town just to be able to get to work at my hospital on time. Perhaps the street crews and their supervisors should consider a new policy. If you don't think you can get to your equipment, then stay with your equipment overnight.

Recycling plastic wrapper

I WANTED to talk about the fact that we received our recycling bulletin from the city of Cape. It was talking about the fact that they don't accept newspaper-wrap plastic bags, but I found a way to recycle the plastic wrapping on the newspaper. I've found two ways to do it. One, I cut them apart and make plastic ribbon, and I can make wreaths out of them. And the second thing: If they're not torn up real badly, I blow them up, I hold it real tightly tie a knot around. It makes a nice balloon. My dog looks forward to it every morning. The minute we take it off the paper, she's got to have it. When she gets done playing with it, if she hasn't shredded it, then I go ahead and cut it apart, tie it together and I make things with it. So it can be recycled, and I appreciate the cover on the paper to keep it from getting damaged. That's one way to keep the newspaper from having to change what they are already doing to protect the paper.

Get rid of pay panel

I JUST read in the paper about the lobbyists for the judges who had a chicken dinner and all the trimmings for the legislators three hours before the vote was cast on that pay-increase legislation. I just think it was a way to try to buy the raise for the judges. They're critical of the news media and the way newspapers reported it. I think the news people tell it the way they see it most of the time. As for the judges, if the pay isn't high enough, why shouldn't they just resign and go to a private job? There's seem to be no shortage of applicants for the job, so I don't think they'd have any problem getting a replacement for them. I think the commission should be abolished.

Too much hypocrisy

Hypocrisy is an exaggeration run rampant, and our leaders are not getting anything done because everybody wants it their way only. We need to have more coalition in our government and have a possible end to such things as filibusters. I'm very happy that the line-item veto passed and is in effect. I'm neither Democrat or Republican, and I'd like to say this bickering over Newt Gingrich is trivial. I want to say that the first person who's ever not made a mistake on their taxes cast the first stone.

More school days

HOW MANY prime days were the students off from school? Plenty during Christmas and during New Year's and other non-holidays. they start school early enough that they should have to go 20 or 30 extra days.

Fits right in

SOUNDS LIKE Michael Miller's going to fit right in with Cape. His little comment about the budget, "Once they do that, we'll slip it into the proposed budget." Going to slip it in like they slipped it to us on the water issue. Welcome to Cape Girardeau, Mr. Miller. You're going to be one of us.

Pay your own way

THE CAPE City Council should increase the water rate for it's customers. Why do the people of Cape always want to pass a sales tax so the county people must pay. We of the county must pay our own water bills. Let the people of Cape city limits pay their own bill.

A swift kick ...

NEWT GINGRICH needs a Dennis Rodman kick in the backside to remind him to obey the rules.

Sick of both parties

I WOULD like to make a comment. I'm neither a Republican or a Democratic, but I am sick of both parties.

Newt's book is trash

HAVING JUST read Newt Gingrich's book, "To Renew America," I understand why he is in trouble. His book is complete trash. The man doesn't come anywhere close to the facts, and if his attitude toward the facts are no better toward Congress, I can understand why he's in trouble. Thank God I only paid $3.98 plus tax for it. It was an overcharge.

Give us our Cubbies

I WOULD just like to ask TCI Cable to please bring back WGN. We want to watch our Cubbies. You can take off MTV for all I care, but I think the Cubs and WGN deserve a chance.
