I'D JUST like to express my opinion on the school tax that went through. I didn't vote for the school tax, and I'm wondering if some other people who didn't vote for it is as mad as I am. Let tax supporters pay the bill

I'D JUST like to express my opinion on the school tax that went through. I didn't vote for the school tax, and I'm wondering if some other people who didn't vote for it is as mad as I am. I think the ones who wanted all the new schools should be able to pay for them and not force those who voted against them to pay for them. Is that a slick operation? They put it on television about how the poor kids wouldn't have a place to go to school, how the buildings were falling down and all this stuff, and people fell for it. It was like sheep to the slaughter. This was a slick plan and deceitful plan. And now my taxes have gone up anywhere from $100 to $200. Even on my car it went up. And this was a deceitful plan to fool all the people. I hope people get up in arms about this. I hope next time somebody tries to deceive the people about school taxes and how the kids are going to go to school with holes in the roofs and everything that people will say no, that if you want it, whoever votes for it pays for it.

Swamphounds picks up steam

THE PERSON who called Speak Out on a SEMO mascot by the name of the Swamphounds must be a genius. My sister from New York was visiting Cape and we went to a basketball game. She kept saying how cute the hillbilly accent sounded around her. I showed her the Speak Out call, and she agreed 100 percent. Let's all get behind the Swamphounds for a mascot nickname.

Those who complain are the worst

WENDY STOTT'S letter to the editor reminded me of how often, during the years I worked, my co-workers who complained the longest and the loudest about having to follow rules and regulations were the very ones when they moved into a supervisory or administrative position became the worse dictators. When working in retail, my co-workers who complained most about rules and regulations were the very ones who imposed rules and regulations with an iron hand. When I entered the teaching profession, I found the same to be true. My fellow teachers who complained the loudest about rules and regulations were the worse dictators when they became administrators. Ms. Stott does not want anyone telling her what to do and how to act, but she does not hesitate to tell others how they should conduct themselves.

Look your children in the eye

I WONDER if the people who want to put the halfway house next to the school could look their children in the eye and say, "I would do the same for you."

Either under- or overqualified

I READ in Speak Out where someone else was having the same problem that I'm having. I'm either under- or overqualified for a $5 an hour job. I have applications in half the stores in town. No one will give me a break because I'm a middle-aged lady. I am teachable and looking for a job, but there doesn't seem to be any out there. There's one that's been running for a manager trainee for months and months and apparently nobody is suitable for that position.

A heartfelt thanks to family

MY FAMILY and I have just had a very hectic weekend, and I would like to thank them for making it easier on me. I'd like to thank everybody in my family. You're great, I love you. I'm not putting any names in this, so everybody's family take a great big bow. You're the greatest.

Start petition to stop mascot foolishness

THIS IS in regard to the Southeast mascot. I'm just curious if anyone is trying to circulate a petition to stop the university from changing the mascot. I think that if the alumni as well as the students banded together to sign such a petition, especially if some of those signers were major contributors to the university, maybe we could get this ridiculous idea stopped before it goes any further.
