YOU WERE wanting to know who the brothers were on the Jackson football team. It was Milton and Marion Nothdurft, Robert and Marion Rogers, Murl and Arnell Godwin, Emil and Lawrence Loos and Sherman and Edward Cracraft.

Another mascot suggestion: Tomahawks

I'VE GOT the best idea yet for a new team mascot for Southeast Missouri. Why not call them the Tomahawks? That way they could keep their Indian heritage and they could have a hawk for a mascot and call him little Tommy Hawk. At halftime everybody could still use that chopping sign that they like to do when they play the school song. So I think they ought to call them the Tomahawks.

Union members pay taxes too

I NEED to respond to the Republican who hates union workers. First, let me take a wild guess. You're either a farmer who get government subsidies also known as welfare, or you own a business and hate to pay anyone over minimum wage. You should be thankful that I and my union brothers make a living wage so we can pay taxes and help people like you. Long live the union.

Madrigal Feast was a hit

I WAS just wanting to state that I attended the Madrigal Feast presented by the Jackson High School choral department, and they did a fantastic job. I'd like to commend all the talented high school students and their director, and I appreciated all the hard work.

Similarities between Clinton, Carey

THE PRESIDENT cheated on his campaign. He didn't follow the rules for the spending limits on the campaign and used money he wasn't supposed to. Does this sound familiar? Well, we're talking about President Ron Carey of the Teamsters Union, and he's going to be kicked out of office and be denied the access to run for office again. Well, what should we do with the Clintons?

Everybody is to blame for everything

THE REPUBLICANS and the conservatives are to blame for this. The Democrats and the liberals are to blame for that. Poppycock, hogwash. You want to know who is to blame for the mess the United States and the government are in? We are. We keep electing all these bozos and bonzos who do not listen to the voice of the people but line their own pockets without regard to the working man, the rich man, the poor man, the beggarman or the thief. The Republicans have had control of the White House for 28 out of the last 46 years. The Democrats have had control of the House and Senate for a little bit longer than that. Republican presidents did not veto what Democratic Congresses were doing. Democratic president did not veto what Republican Congresses are doing. They are both guilty of big spending. Republicans who blame Democrats had better look at Mr. Reagan and Mr. Bush who outspent and out-deficited every president before them. And Democrats who point their fingers at Mr. Reagan and Mr. Bush had better look at the Congresses that were Democratic that went along with all this spending. Wake up, Cape Girardeau. Wake up, Missouri. Wake up, America. Start electing people who are responsible to the voice of the people and not their wallets and their own bank accounts.

Drug problem at root of burglaries

THIS COMMENTARY is directed to the Mickey Mouse Lady. I saw an article again today in the Missourian about the devastation that was caused with her losing her collectibles. I can sympathize with her a great deal and I know how, indeed, it feels to be violated, when people come into your home and destroy. My heart really goes out to her, and she has my deepest sympathy. I'm also proud to see how the community has rallied around that for support and tried to do what they could to purchase Mickey Mouse items and try to rebuild her collection or help her as much as we can. The sad part of that is, if they would do the same and only show the compassion for the same and invest the same amount of money into getting rid of the drug problem with have in this city, maybe people wouldn't have broke into Jane's house and robbed her and destroyed her stuff.

All smokers are drug addicts

YEAH, THIS is to all you smokers out there. I'll get off your case about smelling up the restaurants with your stinking smoke if you'll just admit, like C. Everett Coop, the former surgeon general, nicotine is just as addictive as heroin and cocaine. So technically, all smokers are just drug addicts. If they would say that in the paper, I won't say another word about you stinking smokers.

Jackson had strong support of fans

IF THE score of the Jackson football game could have been swayed by the number of fans attending the game at Parkway Central, Jackson would have won hands down! No words could repay the support you have given to this team of fine young men. Thank you to the school, teachers, coaches and the community. Never lose sight of what makes you special. How about those, Indians!
