FOR THE Republicans to think that President Clinton ordered a strike on Iraq to avoid hearings scares me. They are really sickos, desperate for a coup. I say, Mr. President, take Saddam Hussein down. I'm with you.
YOU KNOW there is something you've really been looking forward to doing with great anticipation and all of a sudden you can't do what you really want to do. You get very angry and disappointed. Kind of reminds of the Republicans who said the timing of the strikes against Iraq were kind of questionable.
I THINK the government ought to keep the television news cameras out of the war zone. Whatever happened to classified information?
NOW THAT the standard has been lowered for impeachment, the next step is to start cleaning out the sinners in Congress. The first question is, what does it take to start the impeachment process?
HAVE YOU ever played backgammon? In the game of backgammon, toward the end of the game, if you're winning and everything looks good, you play a very conservative game, you try to keep all your pieces covered and safe, you try to just go ahead and cruise into victory. If, on the other hand, at the end of the game you realize that you're losing badly, you'll do anything. You'll attack the other pieces viciously. You'll leave your pieces unprotected. You'll do anything to try to shake up the game and change the outcome. I submit to you that is the position our president is in.
I DON'T know if President Clinton reads Speak Out, but if he does, I would just like to say, "Bill, it's time to resign. The jig is up. Everyone knows that you're using the military for your own selfish purposes. Yes, Saddam may needed to be bombed but not when you thought it was good for you but when it was good for the country. You're a spoiled brat, and anyone says you even half the man Richard Nixon was is lying. Al Gore is better than you. Please resign now. I can't believe you're running this country."
I'M CALLING because I am completely disgusted by the recent affairs in Congress, in other words, the impeachment proceedings. I believe in the Constitution that the power of government resides in the hands of the people. The people elected senators and representatives to carry out their will. How many times do the people have to tell the Republicans in Congress they are not interested in impeachment, they don't want impeachment? What part of that message do the Republicans not understand? The Republicans are refusing to carry out the will of the people. It is totally incomprehensible to me that people who are elected to carry out the will of the people can refuse to believe what the will of the people is when they've told them over and over and over again. But it seems like the Republicans are kind of dogs in the manger. From the very first day Clinton was elected, they set out to overthrow the duly elected government of the country. Not only once was he elected, but twice. They have tried for over six years to overthrow him, and they are finally getting it to a vote. If the Republicans in Congress do manage to get this accomplished and do manage to overthrow the government, it amounts to a coup d'etat, because there's no reason for it.
WHERE DID dignity, character, honor, respect and moral values go in our nation? We now accept perversion, lying, covering up and sexual misconduct with the view that I would do it too, but I wouldn't want to get caught, it's private. He's just the leader of our country. But what do you expect from many who think only about the economy, my raise in my Social Security check, how long can I get my welfare and my medical benefits? We're becoming a perverted, selfish nation with perverted views and leadership.
I BELIEVE in coincidence, but give me a break. Clinton decides to bomb Iraq the day before his impeachment vote. People who would believe that Clinton's motives in the bombing were not politically motivated are probably the same people who unwittingly buy swampland in Florida or withdraw their life savings and hand it over to a fast-talking con man. And that's just what our president is, a con man. If it's true that 70 percent of Americans support this guy, then sadly 70 percent of Americans are suckers.
BILL CLINTON said he does not believe any serious person would ever dream a president would do such a thing as bomb another country just to detract attention away from his impeachment. I consider myself serious most of the time. I never dreamed any president would ever have an affair with a 21-year-old intern in our White House and lie about it to a federal jury. Now ain't that something.
I WOULD like to know at what, if any time, the government has the right to check into anybody's personal sex life. I think this is something we need to stop and see what has happened that has caused all these big troubles we have in Washington. This is a private affair.
I WOULD like to compliment the people of Cape Girardeau and outlying communities for all their generosity at this time of year for those people who are in need. Do we have to stop with Christmas only? Would it be a worthwhile project for the various organizations and work places to band together and adopt a family throughout the year for their needs, whether it be money to help pay for utilities or clothes or food or even just to drive a ride to the doctor's office?
I'LL NEVER vote for another Republican for anything. They don't even show common decency. They disgrace our nation.
THIS REPUBLICAN Congress is just one big disgrace, especially the House of Representatives. I think their problem is they want to run the executive part plus Congress. They say they're with the fighting men, all of them, regardless of what they think of the president. The president is the commander-in-chief, so they've got to be with him too regardless of what they think about his personal opinions. They're letting personal morals and their personal feelings get in the way of recognizing he's the commander-in-chief. He's done a great job of running the economy, and he is in command until this term expires.
WHEN WE are in a military operation, aiding and abetting the enemy is treason. The Republicans who are voting for impeachment are aiding and abetting the enemy. This is treason, and they should be tried for it.
HOW ABOUT that boob Livingston fellow, another one of your horny leaders out before he even got to take office? What's wrong with you right-wing Republicans? Did you think that when Larry Flynt said he was going to expose the sanctimonious right-wingers that made his life miserable that you were above his attack? People don't like sanctimonious phonies, and he could well be the cause of a change of balance of power in Congress in the next election. Take you medicine like a typical Republican and blame your opponents for outing you and whine how honest and honorable you are and how you haven't been caught lately, just like any upright Republican.
I WOULD just like to take this opportunity to thank all the Republicans for their action during the recent attack on Iraq. The statements you have made will assure a Democrat will be elected during the next presidential election and will also affect those who run for Congress and Senate next time. The remarks that have been made are bordering on treason. I just can't believe that the Republicans are telling people that the president has got the U.N., the military and all type members to lie for him to save him from impeachment. Be real. In my opinion, the Republicans should be brought up on of charges of slander and high treason for their lies and not supporting an operation that could affect our nation and our allies' safety in the Gulf. What this whole thing boils down to is the Republicans can't accept the fact they lost out on the presidential election to Clinton and have tried to get rid of him ever since he entered office. However the Republicans fail the realize this, that the more they go after Clinton, the more people are getting disgusted with their party. The reason most people are supportive of Clinton after what he's done is because most people feel that all politicians are liars and cheats, so why get rid of one who's doing a good job?
WELL, I find it very interesting that another Republican has been caught and thinks he's perfectly innocent because he had an affair a long time ago. Fair is fair and right is right. What is good for one is good for the other. Because the Republican does not exempt them from doing wrong any more it does the Democrats. And if they go through with this, which apparently they are, I don't think people have as short a memory as they would like to believe. They'll remember when they go to the polls next year. They're dead ducks.
A COMMENT on this wag-the-dog attack on Iraq and this wag-the-dog attack on Livingston, the new speaker of the House. They've been investigating him and found evidently he had some adulterous affairs. Of course, he didn't use cigars and didn't lie about it under oath. I think this is ridiculous. It's just one thing after another. I wonder what fiendish plot that Slick and his cohorts will come up with next to thwart and put off impeachment. I think it's time to go on now and let the cards fall where they may just like they did with Nixon when he was fighting the Vietnam War and they threatened to impeach him. I think the same thing should be done with Slick Willie.
A QUESTION was asked when in the history of our country have we had a president like the one we have now. That's an easy one. His name was Richard Nixon, and he was a Republican.
PEOPLE, DO you remember Clinton's speech,, pointing his finger and telling us he did not have sexual relations with that woman? The impeachment is about perjury, and the sexual acts were performed in our house, not his house. Why would Hillary stay? They know too much on one another. Check out some reading material about the Dixie Mafia.
THE MAJORITY of the political parties, Democrats and Republicans, will back their own no matter his character or transgressions. A small percentage who stand above this behavior are the real Americans.
CONGRESS, PROVE to our country and to the world that we will not tolerate a perjured felon as our president so that we may recover our dedication and decency to the laws of our Constitution and prove we're upholding respect for our country. Get this immoral Clinton out of office as soon as possible. Clinton is without conscience.
IN RESPONSE to the Speak Out comment on `Pagan practices.': I wish to commend this person for his comment. I appreciate it because it shows me that I have another person who is as nosy as I am, and I wish to pass this along to him. Preparing a Sunday school lesson at Easter time, I encountered several different things that I was questioning until I resolved myself to the fact that I had to do a little research. Out of that research I found out that, down through the time, there were many, many, many types of practices that you could relate to the pagan activities. Many people practiced these different things. What better time to make corrections in our religious thinking than to use those things for Christian belief? What I get from past history is the fact that many of these things were used for the simple reason to draw people into our religion. And out of this we have many of the coincidences.
