I'VE ALWAYS loved the seminary property and the area, and I told my family that someday I would own it. I wish now I had put the wheels in motion to buy it and then asked the City Council to put it on the ballot so I could reap the benefit of the taxes to make my dream come true.
I DON'T know why these 911 people are so excited about what number I have on my mailbox. I live a long way from my mailbox, and if I have an emergency and they're looking for me, they better not be looking in that mailbox, because that's not where I am. I thought this 911 stuff was supposed to give them a map to my house, not my mailbox.
THE POLITICIANS are crying for an apology a request for forgiveness from Clinton. The only person Clinton needs to ask forgiveness from is God and his family. What president in history was a perfect 10? Kennedy had a heavy sexual appetite, but due to a media that respected the office of presidency and privacy, they didn't let it out. The women of that time weren't as open with their own sexual antics as well. The presidency was not affected by the sexual escapades of the past. Roosevelt wouldn't have gotten to be president if the extent of his disability were widely known. That wouldn't be the case today however. Turner's and Trump's escapades didn't affect their powerful influence on business. Clinton was set up. Why would anyone save a dress with DNA all over it? I think Starr needs to apologize to the American taxpayers for wasting our money. Who is without sin, cast the first stone. I think we Americans have forgotten that.
THERE IS a wreck waiting to happen at the stop signs in Jackson and Cape. The trees and bushes cover the signs, and if you're a stranger in town, God bless you. One is at Shawnee and Jackson Boulevard going east and also in Doctor's Park and many more.
WHEN MY real estate taxes increased by 43 percent last year, I vowed to vote against every tax increase proposal that may come up for the rest of my life, and that includes attempting to increase taxes on the weary, unsuspecting traveler as he passes through town.
I WANT to thank President Clinton for having to make me explain to my child what oral sex is.
RECENTLY, THE Southeast Missourian gave limited praise to Jimmy Carter for the Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty. I think most would agree that Carter's post-presidency has been honorable, particularly with his Habitat for Humanity house-building efforts. If President Clinton remains true to his colors, the period after his presidency may also be characterized by his participation in the building of houses, though the houses will be of a more specific, perhaps controversial nature.
I'VE READ in your paper that ultimately every citizen in this country could call for the termination of Starr's investigation. I think that time has come. It has all been a terrible waste of taxpayers' money. An ABC news poll showed 69 percent of Americans want the inquiry to end. Not only is Starr going to continue, they are now starting to talk about starting in on Vice President Gore. President Clinton is far from being the first president to commit adultery. He is the only one who has had to be accountable. He has apologized, and the majority of the people are behind him. He and his family have been under attack from day one. Enough is enough. Ms. Lewinsky was a consenting adult. The Bible says let he who's without sin cast the first stone. If Starr's life was under the scrutiny through, or anyone's for that matter, how would we each measure up?
IF A 50-year-old school principal of any school was having a sexual relationship with a 21-year-old student teacher in the principal's office, would that be wrong? Would that be private? If the principal could use taxpayer money to hire this student teacher for next year, would that be wrong, would that be private? If the principal lied to the public about it and lied under oath about it and asked other people to lie about it, would that be wrong, would that be private?
WHEN I hear somebody like Dr. Kamath complaining about stress and everything like that, I think he should go to his own stress clinic.
PAULA JONES contended in her lawsuit that she was not given favorable treatment because she refused the president. This part of it was thrown out because there was no evidence. The reason there was no evidence is because the president perjured himself. The president has a long history of rewarding people who satisfy him with higher paying state jobs and special favors. The thing that really galls me is the fact that he's satisfying the women who satisfy him with my tax dollar.
IT SEEMS finally someone in Cape Girardeau has told the truth. Dr. Kamath has taken a personal responsibility to tell the truth in his letter. I agree wholeheartedly with what Dr. Kamath has said except for two points. People who like to complain and spend their money on fun have the responsibility to pay for what they get. The two points that I disagree with Dr. Kamath on is that while the doctors are not supposed to be responsible for the patient's personal problems, they should be able to refer them to an agency that can take care of whatever personal problem they have. They've not responsible for them, just for the referral to an agency that can take care of them. Personal responsibility will go a long way in life. However, most people who are in financial need don't want to work to get the money, don't want to pay for what they get and want to complain about people who are actually working hard. It's about time people promote self-responsibility in this life. You've only got one life. You can't let people give you other stuff for free all the time.
I WOULD like to ask the people in charge of the local talent shows to please announce the winners after each category and do not make people sit and wait through each category. There is no sense in everyone having to sit around and wait for four hours to know who the winners are. People have jobs to go in the evening, small children who may be put in bed, and we would like to be able to know the winners of each category after the first hour.
IN ANSWER to the President Clinton problem, everybody, including him most of all, should read Proverbs 14 and feel very much compassion for Hillary and Chelsea.
I'D JUST like to compliment the superintendent, Dan Tallent, and the Cape Girardeau School Board for appointing community committees to work with two difficult issues, the number of periods per day teachers teach and also the finance situation. I wish the Jackson school system would look at these issues.
