THANK YOU to Ron Wilson of the American Legion who goes to the Cape Rock Park twice each day to raise and lower the American flags. He is one of the true heroes who help make us proud of our city and it's heritage. I WAS just wondering if anyone had considered renaming the new elementary school that they're building north of town the John A. Cobb School. Thanks for raising flag each day

Suggestion for naming new school

I WAS just wondering if anyone had considered renaming the new elementary school that they're building north of town the John A. Cobb School. I think this would be a wonderful memory to this man and all his accomplishments in the Cape area.

Builders are more familiar with permit problems

MAYOR SPRADLING'S positive comments and attitude about the building permits is typical of an outsider. But if he and more people had a crew of builders and money involving about three jobs, I guarantee the department would change quickly. Let's quit talking about code and talk about the left hand not knowing what the right hand is saying or doing.

Regular contributors brighten the days

MY DAY is always so much brighter when I can read in the letters to the editor something from Steve Mosley or Ron Farrow. They are really funny guys. And Steve, incidentally I knew you were writing and calling in to Speak Out before you even told us. I save all your little comments and send to my son in Texas who also grew up in Cape Girardeau and played on the Little League and Babe Ruth teams as you did.

CNN shows support for Clinton

CNN IS hitting a new low. It's called the Clinton News Network. They make excuses for Bill Clinton all the time. They have an hour show on "Talk Back Live" trying to convince the American people that it's OK to lie. Watch out for CNN, folks, because it's not telling the truth.

Everyone who works is motivated by money

BOY HAVE I have a field day with the Speak Out articles on our money-grubbing doctors. However, enough is enough. I'm sure there is some money-grubbing incompetence in St. Louis. I feel Cape is very lucky, on the whole, to have some pretty competent, compassionate money grubbers. Why, we even have one that teaches in a high-falooting medical center. All we hear about is the high cost of medicine. Is it any different than food, clothing, or some of our luxuries such as computers, VCRs and automobiles? How about the cost of a college education? In all fairness, doctors put in long hours. I would bet more than your average worker. I personally have never seen them refuse a patient because he or she couldn't pay. They do their share of no pay. How many of us give our employers a day each month for free? Not me. Personally, I'll take our money grubbers here at home because I'll bet the same thing is motivating the doctors in St. Louis, who are not all perfect, competent, kind and compassionate. By the way, what motivates you to go to work each day? And speaking of work, how many do you suppose the money grubbers employ in this town, personally and indirectly? It's not all going in their pockets, is it?
