I WANT to comment about the person who wanted to know why there was an uproar about Clinton taking communion in a Catholic church. I'll tell you why. Because they have closed communion. If you don't agree with the teachings of the church, you're not supposed to take communion. Clinton is a pro-abortionist and for gay rights. He's for teaching little children that when two men get married, it's the same as when a man and woman gets married. He shouldn't be taking communion. And if you support him and you're Catholic or Missouri Synod Lutheran, you shouldn't be taking communion either. You are in open rebellion against the church.
I WAS calling about the caller who righteously said that doctors should charge for phone consultations. I take the same point of view, although I'm not a doctor. I feel that any private citizen who gets an unsolicited phone call should be able to charge for that phone call. That includes anyone who's trying to sell me anything or anyone who's trying to take a survey or anything. First, get their name and address and record the conversation and then ask them if they will agree to a phone consultation charge of $50. Usually that gets me right off the list, and I'm never called again. I haven't had a phone solicitation in over two years.
I'M WONDERING if I'm the only person who sees a problem with the two hospitals in Cape Girardeau merging. I was just reading the article in the Southeast Missourian. Mr. Wente says "the hospitals will have to become more efficient if the affiliation goes through." If it's going to save so much money for the two hospitals to merge, why do they have to become more efficient and why would they have to lay off employees? I don't understand that. It doesn't make too much sense to me. I see all these things on TV about St. Francis, and Southeast too, sponsoring things like the "Beauty and the Beast" at the Show Me Center which I don't understand. That's a cost saving if they wouldn't do promotional things. We who use the hospital would like the choice of whether we sponsor those things or not or whether we'd like to have our hospital bills lowered.
WELL, MR. Starr, you say the end is not in sight. I think after the November elections, the end will be in sight when the Republican members of the U.S. House start losing their seats along with the Republican senators. And when the Democrats take Congress back again, which I think they will, Starr is going to have his tail between his legs. I think he's really on an ego trip, and I think he is thinking of politics and politics only.
THAD BULLOCK has tried for an eternity to represent the people of Cape in the 8th District. He is truly from the old school, an honest man, a man with integrity, a man who can't be bought, and he won't sell you or anybody else out. Some say he is old. I say wisdom comes with age. Some say he is too hard of hearing to represent us in Congress. I say let's give him a hearing aid and send him to Washington. He truly is a good man and a fair man. Thad, good luck in your election, and may God and the people of the 8th District bless you and send you to Washington.
THIS IS about the comments proposing the bridge as a walking bridge. That really doesn't make sense. One purpose of the new bridge was to remove obstructions from the river. The old bridge and the new bridge together make for more obstructions. And these recent towboat accidents should help emphasize the point that the old bridge cannot stay.
I READ Donn S. Miller's letter to the editor in Friday's newspaper. I've read letters from Mr. Miller for a long time in several newspapers He claims to be proud to call himself a liberal. Well, I'm proud to call him a liberal too.
MY WIFE and I listen to a lot of TV talk shows, radio shows, sports and so on. I just want to say that Cindie Jeter on the local radio station here runs as good a call-in talk show as any of the big shots there, Rush Limbaugh and Dr. Laura included. I met Cindie when I first came to Cape Girardeau, but I've never been able to express myself before. Thank you.
I'M A lifetime resident of Scott City, and I was recently informed of a cheerleading tryout that did not go the way some parents wanted it. When they're daughters were not chosen, they held a meeting with the school board, and somehow they persuaded the board to add their daughters to the cheerleading squad. This makes a mockery of not only our town, but the school board officials as well. Why have tryouts if your parents can change the outcome? These girls are going to someday have to learn the meaning of defeat. The parents should be ashamed of the example they have set for their children. I say hats off to the original cheerleaders who were chosen and who earned the position. You know you're the best. Parents, grow up.
