THIS IS to the man driving the maroon Pontiac around Egypt Mills Saturday afternoon. My 19-year-old sister had only been buried a few hours before you came along and stole the lavender and red roses from her grave. I hope the person you gave them to can still enjoy your gift. But I will forgive you and pray that when you bury a loved one no one does anything so disgusting and disrespectful to them.
IF A person reads the free-for-the-taking ads, he should realize very quickly the importance of having his pets spayed or neutered.
DOES ONE or three blocks near a school and church make a proposed halfway house a danger to our children? This project should be combined with Teen Challenge where they would be taught Christian moral values and responsible education for a respectable livelihood. St. Mary, Schultz and Trinity Lutheran School children need to be protected too.
TWIN LAKES is a beautiful neighborhood. It has scenic yards and houses, soft winding asphalt streets over rolling hills, friendly neighbors and safe, slow traffic. That's why I enjoy running in Twin Lakes. It is safe and friendly.
I'D JUST like to thank the Amateur Bass Anglers' Society of the Southeast Missouri State University for putting on that fishing tournament for the young children. They're a real positive role model for all our young people.
AMUSING TO us in Perryville to see how active and civic minded that Pat Naeger can get every two years then you don't hear from him again for another two years.
THE TELEPHONE number for the SEMO Alliance for Disability Independence, which is asking for donations for the Rainbow Auction, is 573-651-6464. Ask for Marie.
THE CAPE Girardeau airport, from day one, has been a burden on taxpayers, and it still continues. Anybody can run a business with free money. Cape Girardeau airport is a white elephant. If it has to be run by tax money, it's not good business.
I ENJOYED reading Peggy O'Farrell's column concerning "Xena, Warrior Princess," the TV show. She points out in her column that it shows little girls that there are women out there who can take care of themselves. But I think that the other side of the coin, which is something she did not mention, is just as important. It shows boys that there are some women, that if they push, will push back.
IN RESPONSE to the response about TCI Cable slipping an X-rated channel into it's lineup. First, I believe it could be up to our city council what type of programming our city will allow. Second, by your own admission, this channel provides pornography as entertainment. Third, I won't spend $6.95 to have this channel, and I will try to encourage all others to do the same. Fourth, I agree with you that America is a democracy and that majority rules, but I believe that there are far more moral people who would not even consider having this filth delivered to their home, much less have our community influenced by this blatant exploitation of God-given sexuality.
WITNESSES NEEDED: Anyone having information about the blue Lincoln that hit the pedestrian crossing the street at Broadway and Caruthers about 4:15 p.m. Thursday, May 7, please call CrimeStoppers at 332-0500. The young man was hurt, and this woman left the scene of the accident. Cape police are looking for her.
ACCORDING TO a Southeast Missourian editorial, informal surveys show Cape County voters to be conservative. I think these surveys are unscientific and inaccurate. I think most eligible Cape County voters are alienated and indifferent. I see them as being ripe for revolution. In fact, there will be one. Diverse factions will lead it. The leaders of the revolution will range from anarchist libertarians to totalitarian Marxists. After the revolution is over, I envision that Cape County will be governed by a very shaky coalition headed by Mary Nall, Ray Umbdenstock and Donn Miller.
IN REFERENCE to Dale Nitzschke's travel abroad to recruit students, it seems to me there are needy and worthy students in the Heartland to recruit at far less cost. There are departments on our campus that could use this money to better their curriculum.
