Raise taxes to pay for war

I WANT to comment on this war we're carrying on in Kosovo. You know this is paid out of Social Security. Just when we were getting a surplus, all of a sudden we've got to go fight a war. I don't think it should come out of Social Security. I think the president should step up and raise taxes to pay for this, not take it out of Social Security. Social Security is a retirement program. It should be held safe, not spent on wars and things like this. Let the people come up with the taxes. LBJ did the same thing for a war on the deficit, and I'm just tired of this. I think it ought to be the public, if they support this, they should be willing to step up and pay the taxes on it. And Clinton ought to be man enough to step up and tell them have to pay taxes.

Standing up for Jesus

MY HUSBAND and I attended the Heartland Homecoming Talent Search and Gospel concert. We were sitting in the back, really enjoying the concert and happened to notice several people standing up for Jesus, which I thought was wonderful. The next thing we saw was the security guard who came by these people and told them to sit down. We thought that maybe this security guard must not have Jesus in his heart to understand why people stand up for Jesus. We went home and prayed for this security guard so he would understand more about Jesus and that some day he will soon stand up himself for Jesus and be proud that he did.

Linemen worked long hours

TO ALL the people who complained about how long it took AmerenUE to restore power, I am the wife of a lineman who works for AmerenUE. I want you to know that four days straight he worked 18 hours straight and only slept five hours each day. So until you go to school and learn how to install utilities, keep your mouth shut.

Another flip-flop in politics

I WOULD like to make a comment about Al Gore's wanting to step up his presidential campaign and have it where they're going to start talking about religion and stuff. Well, I think it would be perfect for the Republicans to get that part in the 1991 election where Bill Clinton stood up there and said "I'm sick and tired of Washington talking about family values." That would be the perfect commercial. Then show what Gore's doing now. That way, you can say we have another flip-flopper running.

A Marine's mother speaks out

I'D LIKE to voice my opinion on sending our boys over to bomb other countries. If it had anything do with us, it would be different. But I don't think it's right to send our boys just anywhere just so the United States can look big and proud. I had a son who was a Marine for four years, and that was some of the scariest times of my life because they bombed Libya at that time. But, thank God, my son was on a Navy ship down underneath and he never had to go to war, but it was close. He probably would have made a career of it, but he was so terrified. I know you know what I went through as a mother Can you imagine those people over there are going to say thank you for welcoming us in? No. God help us all.
