I WOULD like to thank the very kind person that turned my billfold in at Wal-Mart. I left in the shopping cart, and someone was kind enough to turn it in for me. I would just like to say thank you and God bless you. WHOOPEE. WITH the university's power plant expected to save $300,000 per year, that means that at least three new administrators can be hired. Wonderful!...

Thanks for returning billfold

Spending plans

WHOOPEE. WITH the university's power plant expected to save $300,000 per year, that means that at least three new administrators can be hired. Wonderful!

She's calling the shots now

I OBJECT to the caller who said Slick Willie will be calling the shots with Hillary as the figurehead after she runs for senator from New York and then for president. I think she's been calling the shots all along.

Not a movie for kids

I JUST wanted to say that we just recently rented the movie "Antz." It's a PG movie, not a PG-13 movie. It says PG animated movie for kids. Right in the beginning of that movie is some inappropriate language for children. Similar language is used several times in that movie. I don't think an animated movie for kids that's rated PG should have that kind of cursing in it, and I think something ought to be done about the rating system.

Thanks for carrying game

I'M NOT certain if anyone's done it yet, but I'd like to say thank you to KFVS-12 for caring the Murray State-SEMO basketball game on television. I know that Fox had been doing that in years past. Thanks a lot, KFVS. It helped a lot of us who like to watch SEMO basketball but couldn't make it to the Murray game. Keep up the good work.

In defense of Scott City 911

I'D LIKE to let the Scott City residents know that we have three councilmen who are trying to do away with our 911 system within our city. I don't feel that should be a council vote. Our citizens voted to put that on there. It should be us, the citizens, who vote to take it off. It is beyond my belief that they want to put it somewhere down south for someone to know our area. We need someone in our area who knows our area to help our family members. It could be our mother, our father, our sisters, our brothers who need the help. It is not for those three individuals sitting on our council to make up this decision. Cindy Uhrhan, Gary Miller and Richard Freed shouldn't tell us that we do not need a 911 system. It is the people's choice. The people. That's what we are: citizens. It should be our choice. We voted on it, it should be our choice to vote it out, and I feel we need it. So I think the Scott City residents need to know who is trying to take away their 911 system, because I do not think it's right. We, the people, need to stand up and vote for what we believe in.

Cape needs a bus station

I JUST read with interest how Cape is the hub for a lot of businesses in the area. That's great, but why can't Cape find a place for a Greyhound bus station? Jackson has had a Greyhound bus station for years. So come on, Cape. Think of the people and get a bus station in Cape.

Senior walkers are inspirational

I'VE BEEN walking at the mall in the morning for exercise for the past couple of months. I just wanted to call in and say that I find it truly inspirational that a lot of the senior citizens who are there seem to be very motivated to exercise. They seem to be very happy. Even though I am quite a bit younger than a senior citizen, I find it very motivational to watch them every morning.

More voodoo economics

IN A recent editorial I noticed your support for an across-the-board tax cut. You claim this would promote more business thereby bringing even more tax revenue. Apparently your memory span is very short if you don't remember Reagan's voodoo economics. If you truly believe that line of reasoning, I suggest you cut you rising subscription rates by 20 percent to promote more business which would offset the 20 percent cut. This sure sounds like good old Reaganomics to me. Why not try it?

Don't overlook boycotts

I WOULD like to make a comment on the Levi blue jean companies cutting all their jobs and moving overseas. The head of this company is claiming that demand is down for the Levi brand and that there are other companies that have stepped in. I'd like to throw another theory in the pot: There's also big Christian boycott against this company because it supports homosexual rights. Why isn't the news media saying this? Just like ABC and Disney. Their stock prices have gone down because of this big boycott. They laughed at first.

Thanks for the Valentines

I WANT to thank the students at Clippard School who took their time and effort to make a Valentine for the patients at St. Francis Medical Center. The Valentines were a bright spot in a normally dismal day.

What about men's health?

OUR LOCAL TV station and hospitals should be commended for promoting various health issues. However, I would like to know why the subject matter is overwhelmingly geared towards women's health. Hospitals have monthly women's luncheons and women's support groups for every conceivable women's ailment. The TV station and others sponsor shows that deal primarily with women's health. All of this is admirable and should be continued, but these institutions need to realize that men also have health problems. I guess it's not politically correct to recognize that a man can actually get sick.
