A great disappointment

I AM so disappointed in our senators, both Democrats and Republicans. They've slapped us in the face by approving of a low-life, cheating liar in our White House. At least, John F. Kennedy and FDR didn't lie about their cheating and bad behavior under oath. Both were, I might add, liberal Democrats. I cannot understand why some people are so blind as to say this Clinton thing was all about sex. It was about lying under oath, about sexually harassing Paula Jones and trying to cover it up with his lies. It was about Bill Clinton's trying to get Betty Currie to say, under oath, what he wanted her to say. It was about Bill Clinton's trashing Monica Lewinsky and Paula Jones. You can say that O.J. Simpson and Bill Clinton are not guilty until hell freezes over, but you either don't know or you're simply not telling the truth.

Priest must imitate Christ

I AM a Catholic convert. I am always a little surprised at how little some cradle Catholics know about their church. A Catholic priest must imitate Christ in all things. Christ loves all us the same. A Catholic priest does this also. If he were married with children, how could he do this? He is human. The Catholic church also has deacons. There are two kinds: transitional and permanent. A transitional deacon is a student preparing for ordination to the priesthood. Permanent deacons are frequently married men who have full-time employment but volunteer part of their free time to serve God. Both types of deacons have their responsibility to preach the gospel, serve at the altar, assist in charity work and visit the sick.

Lenten hope: Find a church

I'VE BEEN reading about unfriendly churches in Cape, and it's just a shame that there are apparently such churches. I belong to a church that is friendly and does care. The people and pastors are the friendliest and most compassionate people you'll find. It's not a huge congregation, and most every member knows every other member. It's a family, and anyone is welcome regardless of status or race. To the people who have been disillusioned, come visit us on Abbey Road. During this Lenten season, I hope anyone who hasn't found a church home will find one.

Difference of opinion

DEMOCRATS SAY "In your heart, you know he's right." Republicans say "In your guts, you know he's nuts."

New age of destruction?

THESE LASER devices and powerful microwaves have brought us into the real Buck Rogers age with the ability to knock out computers and for use as weapons. Are we prepared to counteract these weapons? What built-in safeguards do we have, if any? This will be an age of destruction unless we develop protective countermeasures.

Prepared for the long haul

THE RAIN may fall. The wind may blow. Clinton will come and go. But as for me and my household, we shall serve the Lord forever and ever. Amen.

Better to be in the minority

IT'S NO surprise that the Senate Democrats voted against removing Clinton from office. That's to be expected. However, the Republicans who voted against removal clearly did so to cover their own fannies. I hope these gutless wonders pay for their lack of principle when they run for re-election, even if it means Republicans losing control of the Senate. If standing up for your convictions means being in the minority, so be it. I'd rather be in the minority than be associated with those who voted to keep Clinton in the White House.

No money has been lost

SOMEONE CALLED Speak Out to say Lyndon Johnson had taken money out of Social Security to use for the Vietnam War. I have a copy of the AARP magazine that says there has not been one dime lost out of the Social Security fund. The interest it earns is very low, less than 3 percent, but the magazine claims the government has spent this money and paid interest on it. The Social Security fund has not lost any money to any other agency of the federal government. I believe this is correct.

Checking the paperwork

IN ANSWER to the lady who wonders where the state troopers are on I-55 in the morning, there were three of them out there one morning at the intersection of Route Z and Route OO checking driver's licenses and insurance cards.

He brought his family values

I DON'T know why there such a big fuss about Bill Clinton. He said he was going to bring his family values to the White House, and he did exactly what he said he was going to do.

Decency, character have lost

THE PRESIDENT has disgraced the presidency. The judicial system has disgraced the rule of law. The public has disgraced the country. You can blame the president but you should blame the conscience of most of our country. There's always been scum like this ready to lower the standard. But up until now, decency and character had prevailed. It's a sad day when there is no longer pride in our country as a godly nation. America is dying.

No vote for re-election

THIS IS to all the senators who voted against removing Clinton from office: Guess who's going to vote against you next time you run for re-election?

Still more trees needed

TREES WILL be planted by the state for the trailer court along the highway. A Speak Out caller would like trees in the Brink Street area. I live on College Street. Don't we need a noise break too? This is considered the south part of the city that needs beautification. Why not plant all the way down to Sprigg?

Look what happened

HAS ANYBODY noticed that during the last 13 months while our government was pre-occupied, the American economy and everything about America has run just fine? You know, maybe we don't need Congress in session so much. Maybe we don't need so many laws. Maybe Congress ought to concentrate on trying to get rid of old laws and old regulations that no longer really apply to the modern world. I sort of like it when Congress doesn't get anything done.

Stay the course

IN YOUR Feb. 11 editorial, you asked the question, "Why aren't taxes being cut?" The answer's quite simple. During the Reagan years there were tax cuts for the wealthy. It did not spur economic activity and produce more revenue. In fact, our national debt sky rocketed during Reagan's voodoo economic years and cannot be paid off with tax cuts. We must use sound judgment and stay the course. We cannot afford to let the gap grow wider between the rich and the poor with more tax cuts for the wealthy.

Pay back cost of lying

WHAT ABOUT our $40 million that was spent when Clinton lied for nine months and caused the investigation to go on? I want to know where that $40 million is. It could have been spent on Social Security and children. Clinton ought to pay it back.

Make the owner tear it down

IT APPEARS to me that the city is hell bent on spending $500,000 of the taxpayers money to tear down the old St. Francis Hospital. This is ludicrous. Make the owners tear it down. I have dealt with the city before, and I have come to the conclusion that it depends on who you are whether you are forced to do something or not.

No regard for law, decency

CAN YOU believe these Clinton worshipers wanting to prosecute Ken Starr because he investigated a liar and perjurer and stumbled on to a pervert too? He even lied to the nation and to his worshipers. How anyone would want this slime for president is showing little regard for law and decency. Still kissing the coattail of this filthy character is nothing new for this party of perverts. It shows their character as well.
