I am very disappointed to see that whoever is in charge for setting the dates for Jackson Homecomers has once again set the date for the first week of school. If Homecomers is for families to get together and for kids to enjoy themselves, then I don't see how having it the first week that these kids have to got back to school really accomplishes that. ...
Homecomers scheduling
I am very disappointed to see that whoever is in charge for setting the dates for Jackson Homecomers has once again set the date for the first week of school. If Homecomers is for families to get together and for kids to enjoy themselves, then I don't see how having it the first week that these kids have to got back to school really accomplishes that. It used to be it was a fun time a relaxing time. Now you have to fight your kids to tell them no they can't go to Homecomers because they have to get up at 6:30 in the morning. It is ridiculous and not fair.
Photo winners
I am enjoying the photo contest, and I am sure that the staff goes to considerable trouble each week to sort through the entries and pick the winners. However, I think some people must be confused about the elements of a good photo. Every week when the winners are announced, I can't help but notice that some of the pictures lack interesting lighting and composition. They seem to have been chosen only because they are sappy pictures of cute children dressed up and posed. There have also been many good photos, and I congratulate all of the winners.

I see in the Southeast Missourian where the postal service is going to get in the e-mail business. I love Big Brother, don't you?
Nurturing parents
I agree with the caller about deadbeat moms. The statistics are showing that the number of deadbeat moms are almost even with the number of deadbeat dads and it is climbing. Judges need to read a new book on the so-called nurturing mom, many of whom get the divorce, get custody of the children, move in with the boyfriend five minutes after a divorce and the boyfriend takes the child support check and tells the real dad when he can see his kids. Judges need a panel of experts to help in custody decisions, and these children need to be checked on periodically. We have a real problem with the care of children in a divorce situation. Ask any teacher or any grandparent. They deal with these children all the time. And please ask the judge to take a look at the real nurturing parent, it just could be the father.
