THE TIF proposal in Cape Girardeau is controversial because it is residential, not commercial. Cord Dombrowski, one of the developers seeking the TIF, chastised the city's TIF commission for its slow progress. Blame for lack of response from the school district is misplaced. If Prestwick Plantation has been in planning for two years, why haven't the developers made numerous presentations to school officials? The developers should respond to the district's questions rather than hiding behind unreturned phone calls. The TIF commission needs to to determine the developers' ability to privately finance the project.
