Thanks to pickup crews
I'D LIKE to compliment the Jackson pickup crews. They had to have worked hard for a very long time to get everybody's trash picked up. Thank you very much, Jackson.
They don't listen
MY HUSBAND and I had to laugh when we read the front-page headline, "Cape Council told it needs to restore trust." They do need to restore trust, but they need to put the issue of the River Campus back on the ballot. They're afraid to because they know it won't pass. Why have a meeting? They're not going to listen anyway.
A change of heart
JOHN HECKROTTE hit the nail on the head. If the city would do away with the River Campus, the city council and the mayor would see an awful lot of people who would change over and vote for whatever they want.
Aggressive scavengers
I LIVE in Jackson. I think the cleanup week is an excellent idea if people do not have any other way to get rid of unneeded junk. This year, many came into our yard and asked if our daughter's bicycle in the driveway was free for the taking. Last year it was my son's playhouse. Both items were bought for Christmas the previous year. I think there needs to be a law so these people cannot just come in your yard and look around.
Levels the field
THE CONCEALED-gun law will help level the danger field. Criminals will be wary, not knowing whether their intended victim is able to defend himself and his family or his store or his property from violence. Missouri may join Vermont in having the lowest homicides rates in the country.
Losing proposition
SOMEONE SAID 43 million people cannot afford health insurance. That is not what the facts are. It's 43 million people who choose not to pay for health insurance themselves. Many cannot afford it. Many can. It's a choice. Some people like to play the odds. Trying to sell national health care on the basis of how many people don't have it is a losing proposition.
It costs money
TO ALL the people complaining about not hearing the sirens: I was all the way out on Kage Road and had no problem hearing the sirens. If you want more, all you have to do is vote yes on the tax.
Spending the money
THE CARTOON in Wednesday's paper regarding how Democrats spend money so fast is very funny. When the Democrats left office, there was the biggest surplus ever. A mere three years later, it's gone. And we have the biggest deficit ever. I wonder who really spends money the fastest.
Let's get serious
GOV. BOB Holden's threat of a budget veto is the Democrats' party-line tactic being used everywhere. Filibustering and vetoing are their methods since the Republicans have gained the majorities. Clearly they are not interested in doing the nation's and state's business. Their primary goal is to block the Republicans. The people want serious and honest legislators.
Mufflers are too loud
I WAS reading in the paper about Jackson being concerned with the noise level of a lot vehicles. I hope Cape Girardeau does the same thing. These young kids run around nowadays in these vehicles with loud mufflers. I wish they'd do something about that.
Not safer yet
GEORGE W. Bush is a disaster. Our economy is in shambles. Government deficits are at an all-time high. Bush has not yet won either of the two wars he has started. Where is Osama bin Laden? Bush doesn't know. Where is Saddam Hussein? Bush doesn't know. And terrorists attacks on American citizens continue. Do you feel safer? I don't. Wake up, America.
