Speak Out A 03/25/03

JUST TO update you on the potholes on Mount Auburn Road and Route K, I actually saw a squirrel taking refuge in one of the potholes on Mount Auburn to keep from getting hit.

Cost of business

I WAS just reading the guest column about malpractice insurance and how the insurance companies are losing money and raising rates. This is something that happens all the time when you have extra business expenses, no matter whether it's insurance, a grocery business, clothing business or anything else. When costs increase, consumers are going to pay more, because businesses pass those costs along. I don't know why people can't get this through their heads.

War concerns

I AM confident that President Bush is responsibly leading this nation in dealing with Saddam Hussein. I feel our military is adequately prepared. There are, however, many potential frightening unintended consequences that could occur as we take this most difficult but much needed action. Given the way many in this country are increasingly flouting God and his commandments, my major concern is whether God will protect America from these frightening and unintended consequences.

Mandatory schooling

THIS IS in regard to people 18 years and younger who are on Missouri Medicaid. I think it should be mandatory that they are enrolled in school and attending school regularly. I don't believe that that is the case right now.

I AND many other people have been critical of Dan Rather in his reporting and think he is biased, but I am calling to compliment him on the way he is related to the Iraq situation the day after the attack started. I think he was very fair.

Immigration policy

SEVERAL YEARS ago Congress created a program to encourage immigration from all seven countries on the State Department's terrorist watch list. The law says that membership in a terrorist organization or advocacy of terrorism should not exclude people from these countries from receiving U.S. immigration visas. If you think immediate action should be taken to reform the visa approval system, contact your congressman.

Rather's propaganda

WE'VE NOW got Dan Rather using CBS as his means of trying to influence opinion and in trying to downgrade President Bush's war to free the people of Iraq. Freedom-loving people see through Rather's tactics. He's so obvious as to be ridiculous.
