Good family shows I wish TV networks would put on some good family shows. All you see on TV anymore is sex and violence. Something sure needs to be done. There is nothing fit for a person to watch anymore. Even the cartoons like "The Simpsons" are so bad that children shouldn't be watching them. What is this world coming to?...

Good family shows

I wish TV networks would put on some good family shows. All you see on TV anymore is sex and violence. Something sure needs to be done. There is nothing fit for a person to watch anymore. Even the cartoons like "The Simpsons" are so bad that children shouldn't be watching them. What is this world coming to?

Read the dress code

THE PERSON who complained about the Jackson students not following the dress code should take the time to read the dress code. There is nothing about clothes being too tight or loose.

A viable candidate

GEN. WESLEY Clark is currently the subject of a lot of speculation. Some think he may seek the Democratic nomination for president. Right-wing talk-show hosts have already begun trashing Clark to such an extreme degree they must think he is a viable candidate.

Patriotic support

PEOPLE WHO maintain their beliefs without being able to provide logical reasoning to support those beliefs often resort to name calling or violence when others offer alternative, rational ideas. This is why some pro-war folks shout epithets and make obscene gestures at peaceful demonstrators or make claims of anti-patriotism or undermining our troops. As Trent Lott pointed out five years ago, "I can support the troops without supporting the president."

Get informed

THIS IS a response to the persons expressing their views about the proposed tax issues. While I am normally against new or more taxes, I ask one thing before people cast their vote. Take a tour of the fire and police departments. Look at their vehicles and equipment. Then make the decision whether to vote for or against the taxes. The citizens of Cape Girardeau have come to enjoy the services and protection the city has provided up to now. The average of $100 a year per family is a small price to pay for those services. To the person who said you can drive from the north city limits to the south city limits in approximately 15 minutes during the busy time of the day: That's fine until your house is burning and it takes 15 minutes for emergency equipment to get to your house because it had to travel from the other side of town.

Gasoline pricing

WE ARE paying $1.50 for a gallon of the lowest grade of gas. I think there is a hidden agenda in this somewhere. Keep raising the price till consumers are bleeding out the ears, then lower it to $1.35. Then we will breathe a sigh of relief like a favor has been done. I wonder if we will ever see a dollar buy a gallon again.

Size is the issue

TAKE IT from someone who knows, being a large person is one of the hardest things someone can deal with. Women today are pressured by actresses and models to be thin and beautiful. What people don't understand is that you aren't any less beautiful when you get on a scale and the number is higher. We need to return to the times of the gorgeous Marilyn Monroe. Everyone loved her. She was beautiful and talented. The fact that she was a size 16 didn't seem to bother modeling agencies or film producers. Why do people make it such a big deal now? My dream is to become a singer. But no one wants to see a women who is a size 18 on a music video.

Why we're despised

I THINK the main reason other countries despise us is because we give them money to make them like us. If we made them earn the money, they'd be probably be at our feet begging us for some money. But we're too generous. Most of the time, the leaders of these countries put it in their bank accounts, and the people the money is meant for never see it. The leaders get all the benefits, and the people get nothing.
