THE PERSON who commented that society cares more about animals than children is out of his mind. This person based his opinion upon a comparison of public reaction to the tragedy where a child died after being left in a hot car and the Michael Vick case. The child's death was the result of a horrible and unintentional mistake by the parents. Either of those parents would have gladly traded their own life for that of their child's. That is why the public is showing compassion. Vick financed a business that intentionally inflicted cruelty and torture on animals over an extended period of time. That is why the outrage is ongoing.
A LEAKED GAO report has pre-empted Gen. David Petraeus's upcoming report with a largely negative conclusion concerning progress in Iraq. I hope this doesn't mean that by the time Petraeus gets around to making his report all of our troops will have left Iraq. To some degree, we need to stay the course.
I THOUGHT Sam Blackwell's story about undersized high school football players was excellent. But the coach who used the term that his player would "whip someone like a dog" probably should think twice about that phrase from here on out. I bet Michael Vick would even agree with that now. That phrase is outdated and wrong.
SPEAKING OF stoplights, I work nights and get off around 5 a.m. I usually ride a motorcycle, and when I come to red lights, my motorcycle does not trip the sensors. This usually happens at three or four lights on my way home. I have no choice but to wait for no cars and go through the red light.
ISN'T NASA the agency that continues to send spacecraft up? And it is concerned about the so-called global warming? That might be close to oxymoronic thinking. Obviously, the main reasons for space programs and for the global warming proponents is money.
FEDERAL, STATE and local governmental agencies owe the IRS $299 million, and $6 billion is owed by businesses. Did you know the IRS can, and does, garnish Social Security checks of seniors it claims owe taxes? It almost takes an act of Congress to stop the attachment while a person fights to prove he does not owe those taxes. This is one more reason to consider a fair or flat tax in this country. It is about three decades past time to abolish the IRS and its 10,000-plus employees who are generally hateful, egotistical individuals with an inflated sense of their own importance and power. They, as well as most of our government employees (which includes elected officials), have totally forgotten who finances their paychecks.
