Sign problem

ROY Blunt had better get over on Mount Auburn Road and move his campaign sign before it causes an accident. That shows how much he thinks of other people.

UN Speech

I don't understand why the U.S. delegates walked out on the Iranian President at the United Nations conference. Sure, we still haven't healed from Sept. 11, but it looks like we're setting a poor example to the world about tolerance of free speech.

State coverage

I thought KFVS was bad about showing more Illinois news than Missouri news, but at least KFVS folks know they're in Missouri. The same can't be said for the Southeast Missourian. Under "State News" on Saturday, the first story is bylined "Kansas City, KS" and is about Johnson County and Olathe in Kansas. Doesn't sound like state news to me.

Church options

CHURCH is for the unchurched. If you don't like the one you're in, leave it. Find another. There are plenty of options.

Bad judgment

I would like to know what this city pays in maintenance for our city parks. Now we are thinking about adding more parks if we get the casino money? How about building a new city hall and get those employees out of a 90-year-old building. How about building a new police department? How are we as a city going to attract any new businesses or industries if we can't maintain a city building? If this city was a private business, it would be bankrupt.

Casino comment

I go to casinos and enjoy gambling. To those who say that casinos take all your money, I say it's silly to say that. I've never had a casino come to my front door and take my money. You have to go to them and give it to them. If you lose it all, it's your fault.

Bad language

I am appalled at the recent article by Joe Sullivan. I have to say I am not sad to see him leave. I cannot believe that he would put that kind of language in his column, and I cannot believe that the Southeast Missourian printed it. I would think the Southeast Missourian would have more integrity than to print such foul language. I am disappointed in the Southeast Missourian.

Bush problem

YOU can't run a household without money, so you sure can't run a local, state or federal government without spending money. Twelve years ago the Republican Party's campaign promise was balancing the federal budget and stopping earmarks. Instead, under President Bush's watch we started funding two wars with billions going to Vice President Cheney's Haliburton business. The deficit increased 71.9 percent -- the largest increase under any president.

People, not politics

ESTIMATES are that the cost of the November election will be $3.7 billion. This could have been better spent by putting people before politics. Obama is spending for people, not corporations.

Poor fair

THE SEMO District Fair this year wasn't up to what it has been in the past. The entertainment line up was the worst in years. What happened to having at least one rock concert like they did a couple of years ago. The country music every year is boring. The prices were extremely high. It was hard for a family of four to go.
