Maddow anniversary

Congratulations go to the fifth anniversary hostess of the most intelligent, informed and insightful political talk show on TV, Dr. Rachel Maddow.

Over taxed

I am growing very weary of the county commissioners pushing the increase of our property taxes. When property took a direct dive and homes were losing up to 25 percent-plus of their worth, I did not see the county commissioners running to be fair to the property owner. Unfortunately, we in the county do not get to vote on increases. It is decided on by our elected officials. Kind of like Congress giving themselves pay raises! I will vote against any commissioner that agrees to increasing any kind of tax. We are taxed to death.

Obama's saber-rattling

You read it here first: If President Obama's saber-rattling, combined with diplomatic efforts, succeed in averting a military strike, President Obama's approval rating will soar, and the Nobel Peace Prize will be shared jointly by Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Keeping the peace

I jut saw a headline that said "Russia seizes peacemaker role." I guess that pretty well says it all when we slip to No. 2 in peacekeeping in the world, especially when we lose the No. 1 spot to the likes of Russia. God help the USA. Someone please get Obama back out on the golf course! He is more good to the country there than making us look stupid to the world when it comes to peacekeeping and presidential decisions! Will the left ever admit it elected an extremely unprepared, incompetent person to the highest office in the country?

Syria position

If U.S. Rep. Jason Smith does not support a military solution to Syria's chemical weapons stockpile, is it safe to say he and all of the other opponents of a military strike will support a diplomatic one? Probably not, but it will be interesting to watch how Smith and all of the other appeasers will attempt to wiggle out of their boxed-in position.

Foreign policy

When the United States foreign policy is hijacked by Vladimir Putin, you know the United States is no longer a force to be reckoned with. The Obama administration is a joke, and the world knows it. How much more damage will Obama do before 2016 when we have the chance again to elect someone who can really fill the shoes of the U.S. presidency?

Grass clippings

Cape and other cities need to pass a law about grass cuttings and leaves being left in the streets with a fine. It isn't always the property owner, either. It is a lot of the lawn-care people who don't care. I had one come back to a business I was working at to clean the grass clippings out of the street as I thought they could cause a wreck. Even a vehicle could slide on them as well as a motorcycle or bike. A hefty fine would make a few think.

Political correctness

Why do we call what happened on Sept. 11, 2001, a "tragedy," as if it was an unavoidable disaster such as a tornado, earthquake, tsunami or hurricane? Why don't we call it what it was -- a deliberate attack by Islamic terrorists on innocent American people? A much more accurate description would be "atrocity." Why are we so afraid of speaking the truth? Is it political correctness run amok?
