Speak Out 8/23/11

Thanks to custodians

I want to commend all of the custodians and other staff members who have worked so hard to get our schools ready for the new school year. With the construction that has happened (especially at Alma Schrader, Jefferson and Clippard), the custodians have put in many extra hours to make our schools look great. Thank you for all your hard work.

Taxing the rich

RAISE my taxes. That's the crux of Warren Buffett's message in his recent New York Times Op-Ed piece, "Stop coddling the superrich." Even the rich say raise the taxes. The Republican members of Congress are out only to keep their overpaid jobs and try to do anything to take down Obama. However, he has outdone them and is doing a lot better job then they or Bush ever thought about doing. It is just taking time to dig America back out of the hole that Bush and the Republicans put us in.

Contraceptive surprise

WHAT is happening to our small town of Jackson? Last week a contraceptive was put in my mailbox. After talking to my neighbors, many of them said they also had surprises when checking their mail. I am disgusted by the teenage liberals who did this. Where are their parents?

Not charity

THIS is to the person who said he or she was sick of hearing about seniors and Social Security. In the first place, we did save money. It was called Social Security. Every week that we worked, Social Security was taken out of our check with a promise that we would be able to withdraw it when we retired. I've paid into Social Security for 48 years, so I do not feel like it's charity.

I would like to thank the person who found my blank check at Walmart and turned it into customer service. I am truly grateful.

GOP vs. Dems

REPUBLICANS are the builders, the inventors, the investors, the job builders. The Democrats only offer more food stamps, more welfare and more invasion into our personal lives.

Actions, consequences

AT last, Congress has doubts. They are humbled and care what Standard & Poor's thinks. They don't seem to care what we taxpayers think. They act like they were taken down a few pegs with the AA+ rating. At last their actions have consequences.

Treason comment

RICK Perry recently accused the chairman of the Federal Reserve of treason. This from a man who not too long ago said circumstances might force Texas to secede from the union.

Social Security

SENIORS are only receiving money we paid into the government, just like you are doing. We can't help it if the government used it to pay other expenses with what we should be getting. I worked and they took a huge chunk out of my paycheck for Social Security for many years.
