Embracing the concept

I live in California but I used to live in Cape. I read the Southeast Missourian online. I particularly enjoy the Speak Out section. Someone recently mentioned that there is a transparent substance, immune to scratching or defacing of any kind. I believe there is because I see it all around where I live. I don't know what it's called. I think it has a long, scientific-sounding name. Out here, many homes use it, at least in part, so they can look out on the ocean while inside. The only downside is that it's said to be expensive. Still, when the members of the Cape Girardeau City Council take up the proposal, I think they will agree that the beautification of downtown Cape Girardeau as well as increased business and tourist flow resulting from it being used to replace the flood wall will well be worth the investment. Furthermore, I think the taxpayers would wholeheartedly embrace the concept.

Rank and file

Ann Coulter does represent the GOP mindset. She has the courage to say what the rank and file members of the party (for good reason) won't say.

Looking east

I'm against a transparent floodwall wall. My wife told me if I ever even looked in the direction of East Cape Girardeau again, she'd leave me.

Treating Bush

Hillary Clinton said that President Bush's commuting of Libby's sentence was to protect his legacy. So what if it was? Who wouldn't be about protecting their legacy? President Bush is a human being, too. Treat him as you would want to be treated.

Checking up

Thanks for taking the time to publish this excellent police report. It makes it easy for parents and other cautious people to check out strangers before they allow them into their homes and lives. I just avoided getting involved with another female criminal a few minutes ago by checking on her name and the name of the man who appeared on my caller ID when she called me. He had several prior drug charges against him, and since she was his buddy, I suspect she did also.

Muddy view

Why would you want to put up a transparent floodwall? To look at the muddy Mississippi River? If anything, make the current floodwalls taller so we don't have to look at that nasty, ugly river.

Any day now

Minor League baseball stadium? Sure thing right after we get our water park and transparent floodwall. I am sure the mayor will be having a groundbreaking photo op any day now.

Waking up

Everybody is talking about the Scooter Libby sentence that was commuted by George Bush. The reason Bush commuted the sentence is because the last thing he and Cheney wanted was Libby going to jail and turning government witness against them. Libby knows how corrupt this administration is and has been since they've been in office. I hope the American people have finally woken up and seen what has been going on for the past six and a half years.

Class preparation

Successful teaching consists in large part of projecting an image that you've known forever what you just learned the previous night.

Still willing

If illegal immigrants would stay home and fight for better living conditions, they and their posterity would benefit. America has freedom and good living conditions because people were willing to fight for them. And we still are willing.

Show courtesy

I love fireworks as much as anyone, but there needs to be a decent cut-off period for ending it. There were some shooting the works until the wee hours of the morning without any consideration for those who had to work the next day. People want to show their patriotism to their country. Well, how about showing courtesy to your neighbors?

Likes Libertyfest

Cape Girardeau outdid itself this year. The Fourth of July celebration on the riverfront was amazing and fireworks were spectacular! It seemed to be a record turnout to me. This event just gets better every year.

Fireworks great

The Cape Girardeau fireworks display was great. Libertyfest would be a little better if there were more activities. Music would be nice at the river while people are waiting for the fireworks to start.

Parade to the bar

THE MERLE Haggard concert was great. A million thanks to radio 106 to bringing to us. However, the Show Me Center having an open bar while the concert was going on was not pleasing to a lot of us. We sat in section 109. There was a constant parade to the bar and from the bar during the concert. It's obstructed our view. I think they all could get their booze somewhere else. As far as I'm concerned, it was a greedy attempt to make money at the expense of the fans of Merle Haggard.
