I read your article on the illegal who threatened to kill the police officer and his family and blow up a building. I live in an area where a lot of illegals have been arrested. I want to know how an illegal can rent an apartment. Who would rent to someone with no credentials? How do they buy cars with no driver's license and no insurance? The blame, I feel, should be laid on the people who hire them under the table and the landlords who rent to them and make the rest of us hard-working, honest people miserable and unsafe. I would like to see more of a crackdown on illegals in Cape Girardeau, especially since this incident has occurred.
GARY Rust recently told us what he considered to be some good things about the U.S. health-care system. Here are three bad things. The quality of health care is horribly uneven. The coverage for health care for millions is scandalously inadequate. It's the most expensive health-care system in the world, and the costs are rising faster than the Republican Party is disappearing.
EVERYONE should drive by the Cape County Cowboy Church and see the awesome display of American flags.
TO the manager of the restaurant who ejected the law enforcement officers: What is wrong with you? You should be thanking those officers for eating at your establishment. You should even be giving them a huge discount. Do you realize that while they are present in your restaurant nothing bad will happen? I hope that you never need the services of those officers. They might say, "Just a few minutes. I have to get my gun out in the car."
I am bothered by the trash-rate increase. I have trouble believing that it is cost-efficient to be on my street three times in the same week for trash, yard waste and recycling. It seems like a pigtail for yard waste on the recycle truck would at least cut the trips to two. I wonder what alternatives were considered besides a rate increase. It would also be nice if my empty trash can and lid were back in the yard instead of in the street.
THE House of Representatives has passed the cap-and-trade bill costing us more than $1 trillion. I don't know what in the world these people are thinking. They have gone stark raving mad. The journalists on television said the representatives had thousands of calls and letters from their people back home telling them to vote against this, but they vote any way they want.
THERE have been several comments lately claiming that the Founders of our country weren't religious men, particularly Christians. Here's a quote by Patrick Henry: "It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians, not by religions, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ." For this very reason peoples of other faith have been afforded a silent prosperity and freedom of worship here. I was also reading an account of the first inauguration of George Washington, who as soon as he concluded the oath of office, said, "With the help of God," and kissed the Bible.
I am getting tired of moving my fancy new antenna and rescanning my TV. The only way I can tell what's going on is to read closed captioning. Could someone please tell me who's idea this was?
