This is in response to the person who sent the message in that they went to a food pantry and they got a $20 voucher and they were complaining because they can't feed a family of five on a $20 voucher. All you can buy is bologna and hot dogs. Be glad you got a $20 voucher, and if you can't feed your family of five, then don't have a family of five. Be like the rest of us, support our own families without money. You should appreciate that you got a $20 voucher...

Voucher response

Sign issue

I was wondering when the city and the police are going to be taking down some of the political signs that are on the city right of way. As I recall two years ago, they took the ones down on Lexington Avenue and Kingshighway.

Ethanol

No. 1, 38 percent of this commodity is used for fuel. No. 2, you can expect 20 percent less mileage from its use. No. 3, it is raising your food costs. No. 4, you will be forced to subsidize it. No. 5, you were forced to buy it. No. 6, you were told that it would help us become energy independent. No. 7, now it is being exported. No. 8, they tell us to expect higher food costs because of the drought. No. 9, man, this ethanol is a good deal.

Rove, Romney

The fact that Karl Rove continues to tell Mitt Romney what he should be doing is proof enough to me that as president, Romney would be U.S. history's most indecisive ever -- a quality we certainly do not need during these difficult times.

Obamacare scam

I just read a headline in the Southeast Missourian, "Thousands fall victim to utility payment scam." I'd like to see a headline that states: "Millions fall victim to the Obamacare plan scam."

Jobless rate

I've got a feeling that the country is not going to be able to absorb 150,000 people looking for jobs each month. I think it is just going to stagnate. The rate of population growth is even faster now.

Tornado stations

Jackson's tornado stations sound fantastic. What a great idea and well spent money. Better than a gathering area on Broadway in 102-degree weather.

Quit smoking

For those of you who gripe because you are out of work and can't afford to feed your family, give up your cigarettes. You'd be amazed at what you can do.

No pecans

What has happened to the pecan trees this year? I've got about 40 pecan trees and they don't have one pecan on them. Now they bloomed early in the spring, but I have looked and not one pecan is on any tree. Now, something must be in the atmosphere to cause this. Ordinarily, I get pecans, but the squirrels get them. So, if anybody knows what it is, I'd sure like to know.

Bookkeeping course?

Who is responsible for the billions of dollars wasted in Iraq? You lawmakers are the ones who need to budget, not cuts to the American people. Perhaps you need a course in bookkeeping.

Flying the flag

I am calling to complain about how appalled I was whenever the president asked us to fly our flags at half-staff over all the people that lost their lives in the Colorado shooting, and I was out Saturday and not very many people ever had it down. It is a disgrace to our country.

Hard times

If anyone would care to understand the true effect of our poor economy and high unemployment rate, you should volunteer to answer the phone at your church, and you can personally experience the volume of calls received pleading for assistance. The current path America is on can't be allowed to continue.
