WAY to go, Dory. You did a good job. You served with integrity. Now hopefully the new team will carry on and do what's best for our children.
THE U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has made too many mistakes this year. Up in the Dakotas they have a huge snow pack, way over average, and they kept more water than average in the lakes up there behind dams that had to flow down the Missouri River. Then when the snow melted, they had way too much water and they flooded towns like Hamburg, Iowa and lots of farmland. Down here closer to home, the Corps of Engineers made a mistake by blowing up the Birds Point levee. They could have just reinforced the Cairo, Ill., levee for a lot less money than what it's going to take to rebuild the levee that they blew up on purpose. We should fire the upper-level management of the Corps of Engineers and not give them their retirement checks. Bring on some new people in the Corps of Engineers that maybe will try not to hurt the people of the United States of America.
I want to comment about the person who called in about the rich Democrats and how people think the Democrats are for the poor people and the Republicans are for the rich. I wish people would look a little deeper into the words of Lincoln that, "no house can stand divided against itself." What we have now is 43 percent of the people supporting 57 percent of the people. We have a country that effectively is half free and half slave. Half the people are living off the work and labor of the other 43 percent. This will not last.
CUT all salary pension and medical benefits for all members of Congress. Limit them to one or two terms. Get people into office that will try to help America instead of the ones that are just making a high paying job for themselves. We need people that want to help America. It could be done. Look at all the people in the military. They sure are not getting rich and have been putting their life on the line for America. Most have more sense than any member of Congress. I would say 99.9 percent of them are in the middle class or lower. Not the rich.
WE are seeing what the voice of Big Business that has taken all the jobs overseas is now doing. The Republicans will do nothing to stop their campaigning contributions from coming in. They will not make the Big Businesses pay their fair share of taxes. This is why they should never have been given the right to give to political campaigns. They are not the voice of the people. Only the voice of the rich millionaires and billionaires.
I want to commend the three young ladies who stopped to help a severely injured kitten recently in the Walmart parking lot. The bottom portion of the kittens body appeared to have been crushed, and it was clearly suffering. They called for help, and waited protectively for help to arrive. What a wonderful example of compassion and humanity.
