BINGO doesn't bother me too much because it's pretty much out of the way. But a casino would change the riverfront with gigantic parking lots. More police wouldn't help us. Their job would be to protect the casino. Maybe the casinos have helped business in Metropolis, Ill., and Caruthersville, Mo., but people are going to be virtually gambled out. There's only a limited amount of people who gamble, and surely that market's already been tapped.
IF the Bush tax cuts are allowed to expire, even more companies will leave the United States in favor of countries where tax rates are lower. So many other companies are dependent on the business of the multinationals and their employees, this will have a devastating effect on the entire economy. It is definitely time for a change in Washington.
I don't understand why everybody gripes so much about stamps going up a penny or two every year or two. Look at the price of groceries, eating out, cigarettes, clothing and gasoline. The price of stamps goes up just like everything else. Stamps are still one of the cheapest things around that you can buy. I don't understand why everybody throws such a fit. In correlation, look at everything else we have to pay for.
SHAME on you people who are after Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder over his lawsuit against the federal health care bill. Do you not realize that it is your responsibility to provide health care for you and your family? I didn't come up with a silver spoon in my mouth. In fact, we were poor. But my husband worked hard. We had four children by the time I was 21, and he worked hard and provided a living for us and we pulled ourselves up by our boot straps and went forward. Nobody owes you a living. You owe yourself a living. Get out and work and quit expecting the federal government, which is us, to provide everything for you.
I know we have a lot more things to worry about, but what really gripes me is when there's no traffic and a car pulls out right in front of you and then slows you down. This happened to me in Jackson on the new stretch of East Main Street. Think before you pull out. It would be a courtesy to other motorists. How simple is that?
I'M so happy to see that the Cape Girardeau buses are coming out to Heritage Manor Retirement Center and picking up riders, even delivering riders and waiting five minutes on them as they reboard. That's service.
