Jackson's actions

I am tired of the old politics in Jackson, taking power away from the people and making hasty decisions. Jackson ruined the Fourth of July celebration at Jackson City Park, and it only follows suit the aldermen would vote to take away fireworks. Please ban the use of the skateboard park, mopeds and the city pool. All are dangerous in their own way.

Inspiring article

I would like to commend and thank the Southeast Missourian for its recent article in TBY magazine that covered Vietnam and the experience of that time. I found the coverage honest and inspiring. It was a great piece to read, and I hope it reminds all of us about all veterans. I was glad the article ran around the Fourth of July. Thank you for this.

Spending options

THE government is spending money because no one else has any or can get credit. When government spending starts to take hold (it probably needs to spend more) and stimulate the economy more (it takes time), the economy will rebound and people will be able to start spending again, although perhaps not as much, which is probably a good thing.

Health care

AT 3:30 p.m. July 11 the Movie Channel will air the movie "Sicko." This is a semidocumentary about countries with national health care. Canada, Great Britain and France are used as examples, although there are others, including Norway. The film was produced by Michael Moore and may be a bit out there, but it did pique my interest enough to start doing research on my own. I hope it may do the same for others and we can make informed decisions rather than rely on infomercials paid for by the AMA or insurance companies, which don't want health care provided for everyone. I have health-care coverage, but I also know that at any given time I can be canceled or refused treatment. The last time I saw my physician and was referred for treatment elsewhere, my out-of-pocket expense was more than $450. I felt I could not afford to have the procedure done although I'm in pain 24/7. I think as a U.S. citizen that no one should have to choose between getting health care or taking a chance on being bankrupted due to uncovered, overcharged medical bills. Friends in Canada wouldn't change their government-sponsored health care for anything the U.S. offers.
