Last night I saw the sweetest thing. I was at the Lutheran Home visiting my mother. And Doug Rees, a gentleman from Jackson, came in, sat down at the table and sang to one of the residents. It was so sweet of him. He has a beautiful voice, and he's so kind. I just wanted to put that out there so everybody would hear it.
We were surprised recently to see a police officer at the corner of Perryville Road and Lexington taking down yard sale signs. I would think with all the shootings recently that our police would have bigger things to worry about. I hardly think those people having a yard sale pose any threat to public safety. Don't understand why those signs are such a big deal.
The city needs to do something about the bushes, shrubs, weeds and political signs at the street intersections. Two that I have noticed are the intersection of Hopper Road and Hawthorne and the intersection of Independence and Broadview. You can hardly see if any traffic is coming. Usually they also put up the big political signs that are too close to the roadways also.
I love seeing the old photos brought back by Fred Lynch's blog. I had forgotten about the A&P store that was on William Street. Isn't the Hardee's building the old Burger Chef? What was the first store in the Hobby Lobby building?
My wife and I were at Outback restaurant last Saturday evening for supper. While we were there waiting to be seated, we talked to a gentleman who noticed my World War II cap. He said his father was a World War II veteran. When we got ready to leave, the lady at the register told us our meal had been paid for. We don't know if it was this gentleman or someone else. But whoever it was, we want to thank you very much. Thanks again. Have a good day.
That was a very good article in the TBY about the family history for Wilbert Welker.
