People hoping to advance their political agendas posted lightning quick responses to the terrorist attack in Orlando. It was almost as if they had prepared their responses in advance, just waiting (cynics would say "hoping") for such a tragedy. Sadly, very few of those whose goal was to further their political goals bothered to post one word about the victims and their families.
Thank you, National Rifle Association and Republican legislators. The Florida night-club shooting that left approximately 50 dead and 53 wounded in Orlando has to strengthen the Social Security in coming years as there will be fewer people drawing it. However, it may cause Medicare to cost more as everyone is afraid to leave their homes and enjoy shopping or being out and about.
Kudos to Cape Splash and its staff. I took my grandson there Saturday, the first hot day of the summer. It was very crowded. The staff was very friendly, helpful and professional. Thank you, Cape parks department.
Buried in the Friday news cycle was a White House communication release stating the war in Afghanistan will be extended beyond President Obama's last term in office. I'm sure we'll see the resurgence of the SEMO Coalition for Peace and Justice any day now. We have troops on the ground in combat in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria, Libya, Iraq, Somalia and Kenya.
I thought we were better than that. Any attempt to drive a wedge between full- and part-time city workers is a tried and true method of keeping all city employees arguing among themselves and unable to "fight city hall" in a united fashion -- a sort of cynical divide and conquer.
My 7-year-old daughter and I were watching CNN the other night, and she asked me why two of the presidential candidates were always yelling and pointing their fingers. I explained that Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Sanders are good people who are just angry that they're having to denounce their own privilege.
Schools being recognized for their positive-behavior reward system are being rewarded because they pay for membership to the company who developed the reward system. It's a scam designed to give school administration news release material that isn't worthy of the paper (or bandwidth) it's printed on.
I enjoyed reading Gary Rust's quotes about government, made by well known figures. However, I was taken aback by the headline accompanying Mr. Rust's piece referring to the quoted opinions as truths.
