Do something

To the person who called in about the Columbia, Mo., police officer's dangerous driving, what did you really hope to achieve by this phone call? If you really want to make a difference, call Columbia's police chief and follow up with a letter. Better yet, you can press charges yourself. Do something instead of just griping.

Joe Biden

President Obama, Joe Biden and the Democrats should be embarrassed by their recent behavior, but unfortunately they lack the integrity to be embarrassed about anything. They wind Joe Biden up like a talking doll and send him out to rant against the rich people who "don't get us!" Hello, Joe, you're telling us that a Harvard-educated far-left liberal who hangs around with Bill Ayers and has never had a real job in his life somehow "gets us"? All of you continue to promote this class warfare agenda that is designed to get people to vote for you. The truth is, Joe, that most of their problems could be solved by an administration that truly cared about the country.

Parking cares

Your article about the proposed change in parking around Southeast stated that "some" administrators are concerned. Sadly, that is the case and has been since I was a student there in the 1970s. This has been a serious problem for students for over 40 years. This problem affects students on a daily basis and often compromises student safety, but only some care. I walked back to my car on a perimeter lot in the dark after night classes semester after semester, as many female students do. There have been assaults and muggings, but only some administrators care. I think your article was, very sadly, 100 percent accurate. This is a problem that students, parents and local residents are concerned about. Sadly, only some administrators give a darn!

Pool safety

My nice backyard in-ground pool has to have at least a four-foot fence around it according to city code. I understand and agree with this safety law. So why is it, on Gordonville Road by the roundabout, someone can have a three- to four-foot "Walmart" pool in their front yard, right by the roadway? I have seen the ladder down with no one around. Not only is this a safety concern but an eye sore as well. Come on, Cape Girardeau, what about the law covering this?

Show Me bias

Just for the record, take with a grain of salt anything you read from so-called policy analysts at the St. Louis based Show Me Institute. This supposedly neutral think tank is in reality run by Missouri gazillionaire Rex Sinquefield and under the guide of objective scholarship funnels big bucks to Missouri politicians for the purpose of advancing its own political agenda.

Show Me rationale

David Stokes' rationale for privatizing Marble Hill's utilities is that consumer bills are currently "lower than they should be." With arguments like that, I think Stokes' St. Louis-based Show Me Institute will go out of business sooner than I predicted.

Bowen's poppycock

Wayne Bowen's apocalyptic prediction that the United States will go the way of ancient Athens made for a fascinating read even though the theme of the column was pure, unadulterated poppycock.

U.S., Greece

Wealthy Greeks and Spaniards are buying homes in England, preparing to flee their countries before their currency is devalued. Where do we flee to when Obama and the Democrats turn the U.S. into Greece?

Christian views

Social justice is important because our society is a society that is a Christian society. It doesn't sound very Christian if you are not wanting to help those who need help and there are segments of our society that politicians do help that need the help and one of those would be mentally ill. I would say that would be no fault of their own. I am sorry that this caller is such a hard-nosed person, but I am sure other people can think of other instances that you help those who need help. Evil is not having enough love in your heart for your fellow man.

Congrats, Rush

Gigantic congratulations to Rush Limbaugh for his induction into the Missouri hall of fame -- an honor so well deserved. I know this news will agitate you liberal leftists, but what do you know? You are absolutely clueless of what is happening to our people and our country right now. Wake up and educated yourselves and learn the truth.

Humanitarian Rush

Having heard and read the news, I want to congratulate Rush Limbaugh on his induction to the Hall of Famous Missourians. Yes, there are those who oppose this honor for Rush, as they consider him undeserving. They fail, however, to realize that he has contributed a great deal to American society, especially the cause of freedom, and is a humanitarian. He helps raise money for the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, for which he has an annual fundraiser on his radio show. On the issue of freedom, Rush has been a strong voice for freedom not only in America, but the world over. He is also a success story, showing that when you know what you want and work hard for it, you can succeed.

The shame of Rush

Steve Tilley, have you no shame? Inducting Rush Limbaugh into the Missouri hall of fame has to be the most cynical and politically exploitative event in Missouri history.
