Win-win casino

WHAT is the holdup with the casino riverboat in Cape Girardeau? It would bring more revenue and jobs into the area. The cities that have boats have not wasted away with crime. People are going out of Cape Girardeau and surrounding areas to other places taking money that could be kept in the Cape Girardeau area. This would benefit local business owners as well. People who oppose the riverboat are not looking at the whole picture. Families are strained enough without more taxes for schools and roads. This is a win-win situation.

Casino, or golf?

THE one thing that concerns me about the possibility of a gambling boat in downtown Cape Girardeau is that it would in some way interfere with Joe Sullivan's annual downtown golf tourney. I recently dreamed that an errant golf ball somehow landed on red 13 on the roulette wheel, causing a big dispute over whether someone had won a whole lot of money, eventually leading the gambling boat authorities to flex their muscles and see to it that this year's prestigious tourney was the last one. We can't have that.
