I would like to make a comment about the minimum wage if it ever goes up here in Missouri. In San Francisco they raised minimum wage to $10 an hour. Now, the San Francisco Bay Area Subways cannot participate in the $5 foot-long anymore because they can't make the sandwiches for $5 because they've got to pay the minimum wage.

President, pawn

TO the people who believe Barack Obama and our administration are doing so well, why are there so many pawnshops starting to pop up? I mean there are more of those popping up than there are the Payday Loans. Something is going on.

School bullying

THERE is bullying at Cape Girardeau Central High School. When is Cape going to do an anti-bullying program? I have reported it and nothing has been done.

ER docs

THANK you, Dr. Moreton, for speaking out on out-of-town ER doctors. I don't care for hospitalists and for sure out-of-town ER doctors. I have had bad experiences. Who comes up with these weird ideas? It doesn't better my health care.

Short shorts

WHEN did it become OK for our Jackson High School girls to wear shorts so short that their butts hang out of the bottom of the shorts? I thought the dress code was getting stiffer when they changed it. It makes you wonder about the people in charge of that school.

Jackson schools

IT seems as if the Jackson administration is pushing every new idea onto teachers, students and parents. I know of quite a few teachers in the Jackson district who are trying to find work elsewhere. That, added to the rampant nepotism within the district, makes me want to move into another town.

Rights to preschool

I don't know what the caller is referring to about day care at public schools, but I do know that preschool is important for children to successfully make it. I had three children, and one went to preschool through the public school and that's my most successful child. To the caller, it's sour grapes screaming about day care in schools. It is necessary, and for this caller to scream about something like this is just totally irreverent. Progress is made, and it is a good thing having preschool for children and it is something that should be supported because all children deserve the same rights to an education.

No hypocrisy here

I haven't called Speak Out in years, however I feel compelled to with this person that called in about Rush Limbaugh, liberal hypocrisy. Are you kidding? This person is a drug addict who would be in jail except his money kept him out. How can you possibly come to that rationalization that this is a good guy. This is an evil speaking, bad person.

Conservative no more

HONESTLY, how could anyone admire Rush Limbaugh? He is an embarrassment to Cape Girardeau and to man. I have decided I am not a conservative any longer.

My land

IF I see anyone checking on deer on my property, my husband is taking the men off our land. It is our private territory. The deer are welcome and it's always been on our private area. Our town has made some ridiculous rules for the last several years. Many people are not satisfied with the decisions that have been presented and passed.

Mulch area

SINCE a lot of people are working in their gardens now, I wonder if it would be possible for the city to clean up our mulch area at Arena Park. It is a mess. Someone left some mulch for the citizens to use, but it is filled with sticks, branches and even some tree trunks. Someone also needs to fill in the ditch in the driveway because not all of us drive four-wheel pick ups. It would be great to get it back in shape and get some mulch that people could use. It is a great service the city provides and it is certainly used by lots of gardeners.

Slow down, save

EVERYBODY complains, and of course I complain, and gas prices are high and I have to deal with it like everybody else, but why doesn't everybody just slow down and maybe try to drive the speed limit on the interstate? Leave a little bit earlier if you have to to get where you are going. If everybody would slow down and drive the speed limit, or maybe just a little bit below the speed limit, it would cut down the demand for gas.

ID unfair

I do not believe the new way of voting is fair for the new ID cards. I have a son who is older than 18 that votes and he completed high school, however he is special ed and this is not fair how this is set up. Because I don't think you want to go carrying in a school diploma. Heck, a while ago Jackson didn't even recognize kids who graduated in special ed and that wasn't even fair. Certainly, because he still lives at home he does not have a utility bill nor a bank statement. This is like saying only people of means can vote, and I don't think this is right. We've never sucked off the system for him for health care or anything else he could get. He is a higher-functioning special ed student. He does have a state ID card with a picture on it. Now I ask, why is that not good enough when you go to the voting polls?

What denomination?

TODAY, what I'd like to find out: Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson call themselves reverends. Did you ever see a picture of them preaching in a church? I'd like for somebody to tell me what denomination they are and if they ever preach in a church or if all they do is raise a ruckus and cause trouble.

Don't worry

WE shouldn't worry about the weather and how the seasons are changing and how everything is blooming a month ahead of time. Just enjoy what God has blessed us with because he is in control.

Unannounced visits

I have nothing against Jehova's Witnesses and the way they witness, but I do draw the line when they drop in at my home. Even my best friends call me before dropping in. Take a hint.

Lights on

I think the police should not be after the speeders necessarily, but they do need to be after those who don't have their lights on at dusk, and that would be on U.S. 61 and Highway 177. The reason is because I nearly hit a young man in a red truck who didn't have his lights on. It is making it dangerous for those who are smart enough to drive with their lights on. So the police officers need to remind them to please drive with their lights on, for their own safety and the safety of others.

Constitution matters

IF you believe in the Constitution, if you believe in the Second Amendment, if you believe in the First Amendment, you cannot, should not, must not vote for President Obama for re-election.

Scam warning

I am a senior citizen and I just got a really suspicious phone call today about a roofing company that was calling to see if I had any roof damage from the last storm and that their company would like to check out the damage if I'd let them. After I hung up I thought that this is probably just a scam, and they do take advantage of the elderly.

Great opportunities

CAPE'S Parks and Recreation has outdone itself once again. The recent Mother/Son Game Night at the Osage Centre was stupendous. Coordinating these events is no easy task, but somehow those responsible keep pulling it off, time and time again. As an observer of and frequent participant in the parks and recreation activities, I have noticed innumerable hard working young people dedicated to providing fun opportunities for Cape Girardeau's youths. One particular employee who deserves enthusiastic and unqualified praise for her tireless work to improve the quality of life is Laura Boos.
