Why can't the city council bring the deer population to a city vote and be done with it? It is sad when you cannot feed deer on your own property. It seems to me not feeding deer will only make them eat everything else. If you don't want your plants eaten by animals, then don't plant them...

Vote on deer

Why can't the city council bring the deer population to a city vote and be done with it? It is sad when you cannot feed deer on your own property. It seems to me not feeding deer will only make them eat everything else. If you don't want your plants eaten by animals, then don't plant them.

Representative forum

A caller said that the majority of folks who call in to Speak Out are anti-Obama and, because according to the caller Obama is vastly more popular than his opponent, the Missourian and Speak Out don't represent the people. Hogwash! First of all, show me a poll in which Obama is blowing Romney out of the water. Secondly, the polls are nationwide, so that includes overwhelmingly liberal areas such as Chicago and both coasts. The Southeast Missourian and Speak Out represent this area, which is traditionally conservative. If you want to have credibility, you must make a credible argument. That caller definitely did not.

Honest person

There are still good people in Southeast Missouri. I put two water skis on my sidewalk with a sign that said "$20 or best offer" Sunday. On Monday, my wife and I went to work. When we came home those skis were gone. I thought, somebody stole them or maybe they put $20 in my mailbox, and surprisingly $20 was in my mailbox. Thank you to whoever bought those skis, and just remember you can trust your fellow neighbor. The person who did buy those water skis, if you come by my house and show me those skis, I'll give you your $20 back for being so honest, because I would like to shake the hand of such an honest person.

Thank you

I would like to thank the two young men who paid for my lunch at the Huddle House this last week. May God bless them abundantly.

Eyesore

I would like to know who is responsible for keeping these medians on Kingshighway and William Street free of grass and weeds. What an eyesore this is.

Drugs, cigarettes

Heroine is probably more deadly than a cigarette. Certainly, I would like to know the statistics on those who have died on an overdose of heroine and at what age they died as opposed to cigarette smokers who can live out their lives and be very old and die. We all know the hard drugs are more deadly than cigarettes, and that's why you are able to buy a cigarette on the shelves of the local convenience store whereas you can't buy any drug that is very hard. You can't even buy your own cough medicines these days at a drugstore because it is locked behind a cabinet. Certainly you are not going to be able to go into the local convenience store and be able to buy LSD, heroine, cocaine or any of that. So, caller, give me a break.

Government control

The more the government gives you, the more they own you. Someday, the government is going to knock on your door and tell you what you can or can't do and what you can or can't have unless we stop this nonsense that is going on in Washington right now. Please give this a lot of thought at the next election.

Helpful people

This is a hardy thank you to the Chaffee, Mo., chief police and the deputy and the six prisoners that helped me fix a flat tire on a dangerous, isolated road. Thank you, Chaffee chief of police and the deputy and the prisoners who helped me. They stopped and helped me change a tire. See, there still are good people in this world.

Bond issues

The Jackson school bond issue passed by a wide majority. I personally voted against it and will continue to vote against any money grab by the school district until we get local control of the curriculum. We need to take control of our schools and the best way to do that is to dictate what our children are taught. And the best way to do that is through voting no to the bond issues.

Wulfers letter

Dr. Wulfers' letters expressing his views on health care as so sensible I hope serious consideration is someday given to naming him Health and Human Services secretary.

AP bias

That is amazing about how the blatantly liberal, partisan Democrat Associated Press excoriated President Bush because of his oil industry ties when gas hit $2 a gallon and now they are adamantly defending the current president when gas is headed for $4 or $5 a gallon. I guess that's just the way it is when you have advocate media.

Medicare is not free

I continue to make this statement but people continue to ignore it, and it continues to infuriate me. Why do they describe Medicare as an entitlement? Unlike Medicaid, Medicare is not free. By the time you pay for the necessary supplemental, it's as expensive as most health policies. It is not free.

Made in the U.S.

The other day a lady complimented me and said what a pretty outfit I had on. I said it is old and she said it didn't look it. I said because it was made in the United States.

Watching abortions

I believe that people who support abortions ought to be forced to watch one actually happen.
