Best of times THE ECONOMY is looking great, the war in Iraq is going better, and I've never had it so good in my life as far as retirement or economic times. We owe it to one man: our president. I hate to hear all this running down of America at this time. This is the best time there ever was in America, and we need to enjoy it. God bless America...

Best of times

THE ECONOMY is looking great, the war in Iraq is going better, and I've never had it so good in my life as far as retirement or economic times. We owe it to one man: our president. I hate to hear all this running down of America at this time. This is the best time there ever was in America, and we need to enjoy it. God bless America.

Immigrant wave

SOMEONE SAID illegal immigrants should be allowed to vote because they pay taxes. Most of them use more government services than they pay in taxes. If this wave of illegal immigrants keeps coming, the golden goose will soon be dead. May it never be.

It's our problem

SOMEONE WANTS politicians in Washington to live on a regular American's budget and see how they can get along. The president and Congress can't give everyone a great job. It's not their duty. They can't provide you cheap gasoline, because they have none, and gas prices are set by world supply and demand. It would have helped if some liberal Democrats, who think more of a blade of grass or a frog, had allowed oil sources available to us to be drilled and refineries built. Knowing of the energy crisis that was bound to happen, the citizens of the country are to blame as much as the politicians, both Republicans and Democrats, for not demanding a plan to seek energy for the future. We're all to blame for our own problems, and the pigs further away from the sow squeal loudest first, then all squeal when the supply runs completely out.

Uplifting article

WHAT A heartwarming and uplifting article on six-year-old Lydia Olmstead and her amazing stem-cell treatment in China for her sight. I can't imagine what it would be like to live in a world of darkness. God bless her and her family and Park Hills Lions Club.

ATV invasion

ONCE AGAIN, the weather's turned warm, so once again we've got kids who live in the city taking their ATVs onto private country roads to run. I would like to know why parents buy these toys for their kids when they don't have land to run them on.

Thanks for wallet

I WOULD like to thank the person who returned my wallet and put it in my mailbox this week. If you would identify yourself by leaving a note at my house, I'd be glad to take you out to lunch or give you a small reward. I don't have very much money, but everything was intact. I appreciate that, because you don't know the stresses and the problems of trying to get identification, Social Security card, driver's license and all that.

Trees in bloom

The flowering trees have been so beautiful this spring. If every yard in Cape Girardeau had a tree in bloom, the city would be a spectacular sight for residents, and it would draw visitors to our great city as well.
