Kudos to Joe Sullivan on his River City Journal. He always relates my feelings. Yes, the people have passed bond issue after bond issue, even voting for tax increase after tax increase for county roads and the sheriff's department. And when the money-eating machines produce more cash, the city fathers have to think of additional ways to spend rather than pay off what is already owed, such as the sewer bonds.
I cannot understand why the Cape Girardeau Police Department doesn't try to enforce handicapped parking spaces. It is an effort for many to walk a distance from the parking lot to a business. I see cars in the spaces that do not have stickers or plates designating they can park there.
If global warming is not real, why have we seen great changes in the climate over the last 25 years?
I watched the Country Music Awards for the first time in a long time because there were a lot of good singers, but was disappointed when all I saw on the first few acts was nothing but sex, sex and more sex. The commercials were just as bad. I won't be watching again. It makes me want to lock my TV up and never watch again.
I would like to comment about young girls sun tanning. Please stop. I am 50 years old and went to my high school reunion. Most women who started tanning look 30 to 40 years older than they should.
Let's put aside the argument about global warming. We know weather continually changes for thousands of years. Let's talk about carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. People who get fossil fuels are all carbon based, and when burned there are carbons released into the air. There is a net loss of carbons coming out of the ground and a gain of carbon in the atmosphere. To reduce the carbons coming to the air, use renewable resources such as wood and corn that release carbon into the atmosphere and absorb carbon as they grow. It's about a break even.
To the person who stole my flower and pot off my front porch on North Henderson Ave., near the university: Please return it. It was grown all winter for that special spot, and I would like to have it back.
