Congrats to Delta FFA
I WOULD like to congratulate the Delta FFA members and their adviser, Alissa Swindell, on their making it to the state convention. I know it takes hard work. Good luck.
Good police work
I HAVE had a problem with vandalism in Scott City. One officer took it upon himself to catch the persons involved. I want to give a great big thank you to Richard Copeland for his outstanding effort and a job well-done. We need more police like him.
Vietnam history
THE LATEST malicious hogwash from liberals is that Iraq is another Vietnam. How asinine can they get? The Democrats got Vietnam started when America had not even been attacked.
Allenville's bridge
RESIDENTS OF Allenville are concerned about the burning of the railroad bridge. The railroads are always preaching how pedestrians are to stay off the tracks. If the railroad company that owns that bridge does not enforce the no-pedestrian warning and something happens to a pedestrian, that would leave the company liable. It would be a good idea to put a fence up on each side and a no-trespassing sign. That way the company would be covered. Allenville residents use the railroad bridge during floods, and the railroad company provides a motor cart for them to travel back and forth into town. The rest of the time pedestrians should not be trespassing on railroad property.
Stalling for time
IRAN PROMISES to prove by mid-May that it doesn't have any nuclear weapons. That will give Iran plenty of time to get the weapons out of Iran to Syria, just like Saddam Hussein procrastinated until he had time to get rid of his weapons of mass destruction.
Mosques are fortresses
HERE IN America, we think of churches as sanctuaries. But in Iraq, mosques are forts. There are weapon stashes in the mosques. If the bad guys are going to use the mosques as fortresses, we're going to have to knock them down.
School productions
I LOVE live theater. I attend the drama productions at Jackson High School, Central High School and Notre Dame Regional High School. I don't mean to be a critic, but the quality of productions at Jackson has declined. There's no comparing Jackson's spring production to Central's "South Pacific." Keep up the outstanding work, Central.
Gouging the golfers
THE CITY is upping the charges on golfers again. Why doesn't the city charge the freeloading soccer players to play each game? And the freeloading softball and baseball players should be charged to use the fields that belong to us all -- those fields with the no-trespassing signs on them. Why doesn't the city charge tolls for the use of the bicycle and walking path? Why does the city always gouge the golfers? I know it's only 50 cents this time, but we have to draw the line somewhere.
Savings suggestion
MAYOR KNUDTSON, how much money a year could the city save on wear and tear and gasoline if employees were not allowed to drive their automobiles home?
Mascot variations
I KNOW that they narrowed their list of mascot names at Southeast Missouri State University to five names, but here are three variations on those names that might be helpful: Nighthawks, Timberwolves, River Rangers.
Need curb pickup
I AM a resident of Scott City and a senior citizen. I know they're having bulk pickup, but you have to drop off items yourself. I am disabled, I have no vehicle. Why don't they ever have a curb pickup anymore in Scott City?
Landing lane
I'M NOT saying the new street lights on East Main Street in Jackson are too bright, but I'm pretty sure I saw an airplane circling the other night as though it was looking for a place to land.
