Obama presidency

I would like to say thank you to the president for wrecking the economy, doubling the price of gasoline and dramatically increasing unemployment. The stock market went up, but all that does is increase the difference between the rich and poor. All these things, the liberal media was concerned during the Bush administration. Gas was half the price, unemployment was two points lower and the economy grew at a greater rate.

Tax-free weekend

Since the city's sales tax revenue is up and we have all this money coming from the casino, does that mean they will participate in the tax-free weekend and share the wealth with some of the little people?

Moral awareness

People in the country need moral awareness.

Vulgar ads

I agree with the statement about vulgar advertisement. That's why the TV doesn't come on much in my house. The commercials shown on most channels are disgusting. Even during prime time they show skimpy lingerie ads that kids should not be viewing.

'Miss Firecracker'

Just came from the opening night production of "Miss Firecracker Contest" at the River Campus: I laughed until I cried. The level of talent in these student productions never fails to impress, but this was an exceptionally good one. All of the players were great, but the actresses who portrayed Carnell and Popeye were superior. And the sets were very well done. Our city is indeed fortunate to have access to such great entertainment.

Great production

We just saw "The Miss Firecracker Contest" at the River Campus, and it was wonderful. My friend was laughing so hard he fell out of his chair. Another great production. Congratulations to all involved.

Deer, abortion

It is sad and hurts my heart when there is such a public outcry against killing deer and that same "public" says nothing about the 1.5 million babies who are killed each year through abortion.

Smoking referendum

The historical first-time referendum repealing a Cape city ordinance needs to be followed up with another petition drive and referendum to revive the effort to stop smoking in public facilities like restaurants and bars.

Obamacare

This is my opinion on Obamacare. We just found out our insurance through work will be raised 12 percent due to Obamacare. I do not think this is helping the middle class. This may help the unemployed or poorer classes, but I don't think Obama will be happy until everyone is dependent upon the government for assistance. I think that's his whole goal so government can tell us what to do.

City's responsibility

Since the citizens of Cape Girardeau have no way to defend their gardens and shrubs against all the urban deer, then maybe the city ought to be financially responsible to compensate us for our losses. If private citizens aren't allowed to deal with the problem, then the city has an obligation to do so.

Jackson schools

The concerned parents of the Jackson School District have spoken with the election. While I am saddened both new candidates didn't get on the board, at least we are now headed in the right direction. Maybe the board and Teri Tomlin should have let the parents speak, because now they (she) will have to listen. I sincerely pray that this district gets back on the right track soon; our children are not guinea pigs. The teachers are doing the best they can, but we need leadership which is educated and researched. And we need to let our teachers speak freely about what is happening in their classrooms.

Rome, moral decay

Attention America, the late great Roman Empire was all powerful. Why did they collapse? Moral decay within.
