REGARDING the Upward Basketball Program through Lynwood Baptist Church: I had two children who played Upward basketball this year, and they had a fantastic time. As long as there's veteran leadership with Shannon Aldridge and Laura Kesterside, the program will always continue to rock.
WILL someone please tell me why there are those who feel they can do things "out in the country" that they can't do at home? We are constantly picking up beer cans and other trash on our road. We listen to four wheelers into the early morning. We are constantly reposting our mailbox. We give homes to dropped-off pets or take them into the animal shelter. Recently someone remodeled a bathroom in a mobile home and "donated" the old fixtures to our property. We cleaned it up, loaded it up and took it into Jackson, which charges a small fee. This service is available to everyone. If you can't do it in your neighborhood, please don't do it in ours.
THANK you to the honest gentleman who found my wallet in the Advance Auto Parts parking lot. And thank you to Advance for calling me and for giving the man a discount for being honest. God bless you.
SOCIAL Security and Medicare were designed to make future generations pay for today's coverage. The new health care bill will probably make things worse. Our government's spending is out of control. Both political parties are at fault. Many Americans seem to think it is OK to let their children inherit a huge debt.
BIPARTISANSHIP is not dead. I think you will see signs of its re-emergence (at least for a while) in support from both parties in legislation designed to crack down on Wall Street abuses.
GENE Lyons may enjoy gloating about Republican "whining," but Republicans are not the the only ones upset by the health care legislation and the massive debt we are accumulating. They are not the only ones who lost. We all did. A few years from now Lyons can write his column about the unreasonable taxation of middle-income people and small businesses and the unacceptable wait for medical care.
