I love Joe Sullivan's columns, and I read them all the time. The tribute to teachers was super. His mother had to be a wonderful person. I personally know teachers who spend a lot of their own money on their students, and they deserve a big thank you.
THE graffiti problem could be greatly reduced if a standing reward of $500 was offered for confidential information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone who defaces public or private property. The vandals seldom act alone, and for $500 they are going to wonder who their friends are before they trigger the spray paint, especially since the informant's name will not be revealed. Might be a good project for a civic organization.
SANDRA Fluke never asked taxpayers to pay for birth control. Her testimony was that working women paying for their own insurance couldn't get covered medicines for legitimate medical conditions. Even if it is for birth control, I would think those of you who think Democratic women are the enemy would gladly pay to stop their reproducing.
THAT was an interesting article about people in cities stealing Tide and then using it as currency. But it really didn't answer the questions: Why would they use Tide and not all-temperature Cheer? Why would they steal Tide and then carry it around and then trade it, I guess, for drugs? Wouldn't it be a lot easier to just steal paper dollars and carry those around?
I just drove in front of Saint Francis Medical Center and there are two signs that say no left turn from off that road that goes onto Mount Auburn. We just saw someone make a left turn there. Are they not going to enforce this? If not, then they might as well take the signs down and forget it.
TO the person with the solution for the deer problem to put up more crossing signs: How do you propose the deer to read so they'd be sure to use that crossing? I am sorry, they have crossed in front of me and hit me in various places. I doubt that would be a solution.
ONE of the biggest reasons why the postal service is losing money is too much fat at the top. Too many top executives, too many bonuses. For example, this bulk mail meeting recently in Cape Girardeau. There were several representatives that came down for the meeting on Sunday and the meeting was a two-hour meeting on Tuesday morning. So they had to drive down way ahead of time for whatever reason and stay in hotels and eat the whole time when basically they could have been here for a two-hour meeting on Tuesday. That is just one little example of how the upper management of the postal service is losing money from decisions like that.
IF I were an artist, I would draw a cartoon of deer carrying bows and arrows while stalking an alleged overpopulation of humans. Like one person wrote, I wonder if deer counters just keep counting the same deer over and over. Let's hope a humane solution is reached to this alleged deer problem.
RUSH Limbaugh has angels and demons just like the rest of us. His demon foot in the mouth has caused quite a stir for sure. Since Cape Girardeau has a lot of Christians who are taught to forgive, I am reminded of the biblical story of he who is without sin cast the first stone. An angel side of Rush relates to a time years ago when he secretly moved his radio broadcasting operation to Cape Girardeau so he could take care of his mother, Millie, who was dying of cancer. A friend went to visit and found famous Rush changing sheets on Millie's bed.
SEEMS to me that if the school district would quit providing taxpayer-funded day care they wouldn't have to build a new school.
IF you really want to save gas, there is one good answer for it: Use your cruise control on the highway. You will see a huge savings in gasoline.
SAVE those tax dollars. To help traffic flow at Lexington Avenue and Route W we do not need a roundabout. We need a "no left turn" from Route W onto Lexington during morning rush time and double left turn lanes at Kingshighway and Lexington to keep traffic from backing up from the lights. Both items would be cheaper than a roundabout.
I am calling about the person who said that if the Republicans get in the country will be like China in the future. I've got news for them: We are already like China. All of our rights are being taken away from us; we are told what to do, how our religious beliefs should be, and we're getting more like China every day.
I'M getting tired of seeing 8-year-old kids driving through my neighborhood in a golf cart. They don't even live in the neighborhood. What kind of "parent" lets them do that?
