I kept hearing President Obama say we were going to something historic by signing the health care bill. I want to remind him and everybody reading the paper that Dec. 7, 1941, was also a historic moment. I don't know if this is going to turn out the same way, but it probably will turn out worse. Just because it's historic doesn't mean it's good for us.
I would like to thank the woman who paid for our dinners at Applebee's Neighborhood Grill. God bless, and thank you.
I would love to share a paragraph from an article in the March 8 Human Events by Patrick Buchanan. It's titled "Global warming: The hoax of the century." "What we learned in a year's time: Polar bears are not vanishing. Sea levels are not rising at anything like the 20-foot surge this century was to bring. Cities are not sinking. Beaches are not disappearing. Temperatures have not been rising since the late 1990s. And, in historic terms, our global warming is not at all unprecedented. How horrible was it?"
WE often go to the casinos in St. Louis and Illinois. I've never seen any suggestion of any crime element. They're clean with wonderful food and mostly visited by older people who get great enjoyment from playing the penny machines. It provides hundreds of jobs for the young people. I know the old saw about taking money from the churches, but no one's going to force you to go to the casino. It also adds jobs and revenue for the city. Look how clean and nice Metropolis, Ill., became after the casino poured hundreds of thousands into that city. I can only say if Cape Girardeau doesn't want the casino, get out of the way and let Scott City have a chance to get it. You're allowing Illinois and large cities to reap all the benefits.
THE parents of the St. Vincent's fifth-grade girls basketball team would like to thank St. Mary's for the outstanding job they did in the recent sixth-grade tournament. We also appreciate and thank our girls for their hard play and thank our coaches for being outstanding coaches and the Christian attitude they showed in coaching our team. Thank you.
