ISN'T IT interesting that the Democrats in Florida who said that every vote should count have now thrown out over a thousand ballots from overseas from military personnel because they don't like the military voting for Bush? I EAGERLY opened my Saturday Southeast Missourian to get my daily chuckle from the cartoon strip "Herman." But on the front page was a real knee-slapper, which read, "Bekki Cook to examine possible voter fraud and election day confusion." Ha, ha, ha. ...

But not these votes

ISN'T IT interesting that the Democrats in Florida who said that every vote should count have now thrown out over a thousand ballots from overseas from military personnel because they don't like the military voting for Bush?

A good laugh

I EAGERLY opened my Saturday Southeast Missourian to get my daily chuckle from the cartoon strip "Herman." But on the front page was a real knee-slapper, which read, "Bekki Cook to examine possible voter fraud and election day confusion." Ha, ha, ha. Man, my sides still hurt.

Don't break the law

NOW THE Bush people are complaining because the overseas ballots that were not postmarked on time and were thrown out. Both of these men have a lot at stake, and you can see why they're trying to do everything they can to win. There's nothing wrong with that as long as no laws are broken.

Bothersome facts

RONALD REAGAN tore down the wall in Berlin? There's an interesting concept. Too bad it isn't true. It's interesting how the Republicans manage to believe only what they want to believe. Don't bother them with the facts, because that gets too confusing.

Fighting for a chad

I HAD to agree with a comment aired on a recent talk show. Isn't it amazing how the Democrats will go all the way to the Supreme Court to fight for an unborn chad but are unwilling to go to the Supreme Court to fight for the life of an unborn child.

Need new decorations

I AM calling concerning the downtown Christmas decorations. I am not calling to run anybody down or anything like that, but it just seems to me like a city the size of Cape Girardeau could afford better Christmas decorations than what we are seeing. The decorations are pathetic. I thought surely after the way they looked last year that they might put up some new ones or something. They look like they have been through a bad storm.

Count all of them

IF THE Democrats had had good sense at all, they would have let the Republicans count all of the overseas ballots. As it is, a lot of them have been thrown out by the Democrats.

A concocted mockery

THIS ELECTION was a concocted mockery by Clinton and Gore right from the very beginning. That is why Clinton went out of the country to pretend he is innocent of all this. But we all know that is his favorite and continuous ploy. Gore and Clinton have used mockery of our democracy for eight years by bypassing Congress, lying, desecrating the White House, depleting our military, fighting against Congress on every bill and naming the month of June to honor homosexuals. He and Gore are an absolute disgrace to our nation.

Rest of the story

AS THEY usually do, the Republican activists will resort to their usual phony methods to deride anyone who disagrees with them. To give you a prime example: The Republicans say that in the election of 1960 the Democratic machine in Chicago stole the state for Kennedy and then Nixon took the loss like a man and did not contest the election. Now we will have the rest of the story. A senior editor for a respected central Illinois newspaper that usually backs Republican candidates said that he was a young reporter at the time of the 1960 election, and there was known chicanery by Republicans in central Illinois. But the Nixon forces were afraid of the scrutiny of an investigation. Nixon was afraid to open up a can of worms in the voting in central Illinois because many of his operatives could have gone to jail.
