IF MRS. Carnahan has finished grieving -- and she apparently has, because she has announced that she will accept the position as U.S. senator -- I believe she should challenge Senator Ashcroft to a series of three debates so that the people of Missouri can select fairly.
Give course in parking
A SOUTHEAST course in parking would be beneficial to many students since 75 percent of them cannot park. Of course, it could be that all of the misparked vehicles belong to residents. They leave to party on the weekends and then park their vehicles late Sunday night and it does not move all week long. Do they not get off campus all week? What is going on?
Coyotes are moving in
I JUST read the article about the coyotes. In my neighborhood we have contacted the police and the conservation agent, and they have never come out and checked. They have insinuated that we must have been mistaken in what we saw. The coyote sat at the very end of our driveway every night under a street light staring at our garage waiting for our cat to come out. We live well within the city limits, and we think someone should come in and relocate the coyotes. It is very obvious they have a den in the city limits and that they are feeding their babies and that they are very hungry. The neighbors all know that the reason why the dogs are being eaten is because of all that construction over there off North Sprigg is causing them to lose their hunting ground. They are moving into our subdivisions.
Strong Jackson team
THIS IS to the Jackson fan who thinks Jackson does not have a good team. I am a Jackson High School graduate and have always supported the football team. I am quite sure that whoever ranks the teams in the state knows more about it than the caller. You say the teams they played last year were hard and solid but the teams they played this year weren't worth their salt yet. They have played many of the same teams. The team works hard and does its best. The team has provided the real fans with plenty of excitement and fun.

Don't forget the veto
SINCE THE tragedy of the governor's death. Bob Holden says Mel Carnahan will go down in history as the greatest governor Missouri ever had and was loved by many, I agree. But I have to disagree on one issue. He vetoed the bill to stop partial-birth abortion not for the protection of the mother, which was in the bill, but to satisfy the pro-choice liberals.
About those cutbacks
I WOULD like to comment about Al Gore's saying if he gets in office he is going to make federal government smaller. That reminds me of when Bill Clinton took office. He said he was going to cut the White House staff by 25 percent. Guess what? Twenty-four hours later he was on the White House lawn saying they took the White House cut a year before. Same old Clinton. Just don't forget it. It is kind of hard to think of Gore without thinking of Monica Lewinsky and Clinton.
Don't waste a vote
I DIDN'T like Governor Carnahan, but I respected him as a politician. I can't believe anyone would be foolish enough to waste his vote by voting for a dead man.
We just let it happen
I THINK it is a very sad day when our American people can get killed on foreign soil and America doesn't retaliate. We just let it go by. I wish the United States would bring our people home and let them have those countries.
