Religious leaders

WHETHER DEMOCRAT or Republican, this election is very important because the next president will appoint several Supreme Court justices. We used to have judges who interpreted the law. Now we have a few who want to make the laws. And introduce the liberal view of anything goes with no morals or values. A godless form of government is doomed. What made our country great was God's laws and decency and character in our legal system. The Bible says choose religious leaders.

Costly proposal

PLANNING AND zoning of the county: Why don't they leave good enough alone? We don't want more taxes and expenses. If this planning and zoning thing happens, there would be more taxes and expenses to maintain it. Also there would be more high-paid employees on the payroll to manage and oversee it all. It was decided by a few that it would be maintained by sales tax. They are letting voters in the cities vote on it who already have planning of all kinds and are getting along OK. There could be more money saved in the long run for roads and schools.

Strong message

CONCERNING THE parent who called in about the Teen Challenge float: I thought it had a very strong message. It seems to me that most children would know about the crucifixion of our Savior. If they are confused, it might be a good idea to educate them on the Bible.

Disconnect policy

THE RESIDENTS at Oran, Mo., received their water bills this month along with a letter indicating bills must be paid in full by the 20th or disconnection of service will be done on the 21st. There will be no disconnect warning notice sent, and the reconnect charge will be $50 plus the outstanding bill balance. It appears the Board of Alderman, mayor and collector can do as they please. They must remember people who have trouble making ends meet as it is are able to vote, and that is how they got their jobs. I am encourage all citizens of Oran to speak their voice and attend Board of Aldermen meetings to object to this procedure.

Buying the media

I HAVE been reading the paper every day about Bush and Gore, and every day it is the same thing. I think it is really ludicrous to think that there are only two people in this whole world that the media will back to become president. There are other people out there who are just as good. The media have been bought by Republicans and Democrats.

Watch your food

THANK GOODNESS hundreds of people are finally realizing that foods containing the words "light" or "fat free" are really not good for you. Many think they can eat a full serving plus extra if those words are on the food label. You would not believe how much sodium and sugars are added to make the products taste good, and that is what it is all about. Small portions of food are always the way to good health. If one would leave out white flour, white sugar, salt and french fries whenever possible from one's diet, that person would be two-thirds of the way to looking and feeling so much happier.

Parade timing

I AM calling about the change in the band festival parade time. I just think that it is a shame for such an honored tradition to be violated in such a way as to not allow the children to attend the parade. This is a time-honored tradition in Jackson, and it is a sad day when we do not let our children attend this parade. They are the future band members. If they are not allowed to attend the parade, they will not have the opportunity to see the band in action and to cheer for their band and have that ownership so they can be the future band members. It is such a waste to see the children not be allowed to attend the parade. All the children should write in to the band directors. Maybe this thing will be corrected next year and for years to come. Write those band leaders.
