EVERYBODY IN town should go out and drive around our new roundabout. See what a city engineer has given us. A two-inch ledge of brick is to crush your tires. It doesn't work like a roundabout.
I JUST wanted to thank this paper for doing an excellent article on the blue-collar high school basketball players in the area. It was a well-written piece giving some credit where the credit is really due for these teams' success. A basketball team cannot survive on offense alone, and these guys taking care of business under the basket (Jon French in particular) prove it. They deserve applause for their hard work throughout the season. Congratulations to all of them and to the Southeast Missourian.
I WOULD like to talk about the roundabout at Silver Springs Road and Gordonville Road. It's narrow and dangerous. Emergency vehicles trying to get to St. Francis Medical Center will be put in peril. It's difficult for small vehicles, let alone ambulances and fire trucks. Silver Springs Road and Gordonville Road will become an important entrance to the St. Francis emergency room. I feel the roundabout is a waste of money. It's not engineered correctly. It should be removed and redone.
WELL MARTY Mishow, how about those Indians? Hey, I did all I could do. Man, I even called to see if I could get another game with Morris Brown instead of Austin Peay, but I couldn't get it done. I know how you guys were pulling for another Morris Brown. Don't get puked out. Better luck next time. Maybe you can get Morris Brown four times next year.
I JUST wanted to say the article about trailers was disgusting. A trailer's pulled behind a cab to form an 18-wheeler. The article was very rudely stated. I live in a mobile home. I have a patio, sunroom and a carport. I have a trash compactor, a dishwasher and all the nice other little things. I keep my home and my yard nice. Don't throw stones if your home is glass. There are a lot of people who don't have a home at all. I think the article was totally uncalled for.
I SAW where the Cape Girardeau school board decided not to renew Randie Fidler's contract. As a substitute teacher for about 11 years, I've been shocked at how coaches are held to a different standard than the rest of the teachers. I think it's time we hire a principal who doesn't have a coaching background and who will treat all the teachers the same. Some of our kids are getting shortchanged in the classroom. Just because a person is a coach doesn't mean he shouldn't be a great teacher.
I GOT a $20 raise in Social Security. Then they took $5 of it for Medicare. My health insurance went up an extra $60 a month, and my medicine went up an extra $30 for one bottle, and $1 each for two others. My utility bill in the last three months has been over $200 a month. I have the heat turned down to 65 degrees. I can't afford it any higher. Now they want to go up with the school taxes. I think the district is getting ridiculous with these taxes. Why do they have to build a new school if they don't have the money? Do without some things. I do without food some days because I don't have the money. Should I ask people to buy me some food?
