Rinky-dink sports

HEY, MARTY Mishow, you're always bragging about SEMO basketball. Why don't you ever admit that SEMO plays the weakest schedule of any team in the OVC? I don't know how they manage that, but they always do. You've always got an excuse for SEMO. That's Missouri's problem. They have a bunch of whiners who have no idea about sports. They've never had anything to brag about, so they brag about little rinky-dink stuff like SEMO or Central High School. You never had a national champion in basketball or football. Missourians never had anything to brag about in football until the Rams came here from another state.

Put the heat on

SURPRISE, SURPRISE. Missouri's budget is $300 million in the red. This is after eight years of Democratically controlled government. Does that surprise anyone? I wonder if the Democrats are going to say it's Ronald Reagan's fault. The Republicans are to blame too. I vote Republican, and I'm putting the heat on every Republican legislator I know to cut the budget and to get some sensibility back into state government. Make your calls. Let them rule us with some kind of sense of dignity.

Still killing babies

IT IS very obvious now that the party that ran and said it was pro-life intends to do absolutely nothing about Roe vs. Wade. We are going to continue to kill unborn babies.

An act of kindness?

I SEE where the Lebanese businessman donated $100,000 toward George W. Bush's inaugural ball. I don't think this is against the law, and I'm sure the businessman doesn't want anything in return for the money. He just gave it out of the kindness of his heart.

It was Bush's day

WHAT'S WITH C-SPAN? Jan 20 was President Bush's day. But C-SPAN spent two hours showing Clinton leaving Andrews Air Force Base and reviewing the troops and speaking. Inauguration Day was Bush's day, not Clinton's day.

Quick legal fix

ABOUT THE articles your paper has printed about the murderers. They've been convicted. Now they're whining about being in jail. I agree with them. They shouldn't be in jail. They should have been shot the day they were caught. The one guy said he didn't know why he's on death row. He knows he did the crime, but doesn't think he deserves the death penalty. That's right, he doesn't.

Fiscal deadbeats

WELL, MY Republican friends, I have a very basic question for you. When are you going to quit this tax-cutting garbage and change from the fiscal deadbeats you became under Reagan and Papa Bush? When the debt becomes too large to handle, the actions necessary to straighten the mess out could be very drastic and very degrading to our national honor. It's a lot better to be a tax-and-spender than to be a spender who doesn't want to pay his bills, like you Republicans have done since the start of the first Reagan-Bush era.

Think of the future

THESE MEN who think linearly and believe that they can do something wrong and get away with it don't even know what they've got coming to them.

Give it to teachers

I WISH the lawmakers would reject these salary increases in order to apply them to teachers' salaries.
