I'M READING the front-page story about state Sen. Jim Mathewson poking fun at John Ashcroft about growing up and not seeing movies because his dad didn't want part of the money going to Hollywood because of their lifestyle. I can't imagine Mathewson or anyone else who has any principles not doing the same thing. I do it in my life today and will continue to do it. If I see people doing things I don't like who work for a certain company or store, I'll avoid those for trading. That's my lifestyle. I don't think too many people figure I'm weird for that.
SOME THINK President Bush's agenda may not have any more chance than a snowball in hell. But it won't be because his programs aren't the best ever offered to the American people. Democracy prevailed in this election, and it will continue to prevail. We finally got a man of integrity and a lovely first lady who brings dignity and respect to represent America. They are both a divine blessing to our country.
I'M CONCERNED. I see a convenience store selling alcohol and cigarettes to minors. It concerns me that this is allowed to go on. It's been reported, and no one does anything.
IN RESPONSE to the caller who said Bill Clinton is a sad loser. Clinton wasn't a loser. Al Gore was the one who supposedly lost in Florida. We don't really know who won Florida, and we never will know. And about being a poor loser, the right-wing Republicans have been crying for the last eight years. They couldn't get it in their heads that Clinton was the president. George Bush was a very poor loser, if you remember. Not only that, the Republicans tried to oust Clinton from his office when he really didn't commit an offense serious enough for that. The Republicans saying "poor loser" is the pot calling the kettle black. Above all, the Democrats didn't lose that election. The American people lost that election when we put Republicans in the White House. I can't wait for the congressional election in two years.
WHAT BILL Clinton did when he made all those cuts in defense was the will of the people. There's no sense in a big defense if you're not at war. I'm happy not to be paying taxes on soldiers that we don't need right now. There were only limited engagements during Clinton's administration, so he did the right thing by limiting the amount of soldiers we had. I know if you see the movie "Thirteen Days" you'd understand something my dad, an ex-military man, always told me. He always said that if you have it, the military will want to use it. The movie shows how badly the military wanted to go to war and how it was all the Kennedys could do to keep us out of war. I just hope that if something ever happened again like that we'd have good men and women who would ensure that we can wake up and see the sun in the morning, particularly in this age of nuclear weapons.
SO LET me get this straight: The new Cape County coroner doesn't have a way to transport bodies or have any storage for bodies? And the county's going to have to foot the bill? Didn't he think about that before he applied for that job? Or was the Cape County Democratic Committee just so greedy at wanting to get a Democrat in there that they didn't think of it either? How silly politics is in this county.
