Health care costs

I don't want to pay for health care costs associated with television viewing.

EPods or whatever

Please, television, give us the news that is on television, not on your computers or ePods or whatever. You are supposed to give us our local news. You don't need to be giving us all of that junk off the computers. Come on, earn your keep.

Homeless funding

President Obama, can we get through Congress a piece of legislation that provides some funding for homeless people and direct the funds to the church as they could administer them. Being homeless is a living hell; we need to help these guys.

Power grab

This is in response to the man who wants to know why we are mad now. It has nothing to do with the fact that the president is black. This new mandate forcing employers to cover birth control is an outrageous power grab. Pregnancy is not a disease that women suffer from. Anybody can get birth control from Planned Parenthood. They don't need insurance coverage to get it. This president doesn't have the authority to tell the insurance companies what they have to provide free of charge. He also doesn't have the authority to tell a church that they have to pay for something that they believe is morally wrong. If his new health care law is so wonderful, then why didn't he pass it sooner when he had a super majority in Congress?

Taking responsibility

The finger of blame continues to be pointed at the previous administration for our economic woes, and I agree that the Bush administration and both Democrats and Republicans have grossly overspent. However, the previous administration cannot continually be blamed for the spending of this administration. If I died and left my family with an enormous debt, should my heirs continue to borrow and spend and justify, by blaming me, for a burgeoning debt that will be passed on to their grandchildren?

Not about race

SO sick of people using race as a reason to like this president. I couldn't stand him even if he was purple. It's not his skin color that is the problem. It's the debt, the medical bill that ensures everyone of subpar treatment, like I receive from VA. It's the "I'm better than you" attitude. It's all the job killing he's done. The only time race is ever involved is when his blind supporters throw that card out there because they can't defend the uselessness of his actions. So please, stop using your hate and ignorance to put hate in my mouth. I don't like the taste.

Not at Lexington

I have lived in cities the size of Cape Girardeau with roundabouts. A roundabout at Lexington Avenue is asinine.

Conspiracy theory

I think the CIA made up the story on al-Qaida. If they are wanting to knock the world down, why don't they attack the oil fields over there in the Middle East? I think the reason why these countries aren't worried about debt is because the oil is running out.

Right to contraceptives

Obama wasn't taking away any rights, he was giving rights to these women, the right to contraceptives. There is certainly nothing wrong with contraceptives. What is wrong is not enough of our young women are using them to prevent unwanted pregnancies.

Adult tantrums

In regard to the North Carolina dad shooting up his daughter's computer, is it any wonder children are turning out the way they are today? With their parents having bigger temper tantrums than the child ever did, is it any wonder?

Bambi rats

I support bow hunting for the white-tailed deer. Since a herd of Bambi rats started invading my yard, I have not had a vegetable garden. And now the herd of six Bambi rats are munching my newly planted front yard. I trust the wisdom of the committee and the city leaders to take care of this vermin problem.

About potholes

YOU have got to be kidding: $1.7 million for a roundabout we don't need when Lexington itself and many other streets in town are so full of pot holes you can hardly drive on them?

Political compromise

I would like any politicians around here who may read this, why are you all letting the U.S. go down hill? All of you are at fault. Can't you all work together and get jobs back in the U.S. and stop fighting among yourselves? Don't you all want your children and grandchildren to grow up in a great nation? You all could work together and have things changed in a year or less. Let's get America rising and shining again. I hope some politician reads this and carries it forward. They would sure get my vote and I am sure many others. God bless America.

City trash pollution

I wish someone would come up with some suggestions for the recycling truck that leaves a trail of flying plastic bags as it leaves. Somehow we need to be able to contain those plastic bags without them blowing all over the streets and yards.

Fruitland questions

As a property owner in the Fruitland area, I would like to know if Fruitland becomes a village or incorporates, what kind of rules, regulations, zoning laws will come into effect? I moved to this area because I didn't want zoning. I also would like to know how much my taxes will go up if I have to pay city taxes to Fruitland? I sure don't want to pay any more taxes than what I pay now.

Roundabout $1.7 million

$1.7 million for a roundabout. When will the craziness stop?

Viagra comparison

I believe the employers at Catholic-owned business should cover birth control by their employee insurance. A few years ago I remember Viagra for men was covered and birth control pills weren't. Wasn't that awfully unfair? What did they ever do about that? Was it ever corrected?

Disappearing rights

Does it seem to anyone else that our rights are slowly disappearing? It's either the government, state, city or county that tells us what we can and can't do or can't have, no matter the cost. In the earlier years, we only had what we could afford. No one had to tell us. We had enough sense to manage our own lives and families and get it right. Think about it.

No bow experts

I've been an average deer hunter many years. I don't bow hunt, I never have. This year alone close to my property, four deer were wounded and never found or seen again by hotshot bow hunters, the so-called experts. If I were a deer, I'd try to stay in Cape Girardeau also. They are hunted from Sept. 15 up to February with all the extended seasons. And to all the experts saving money by hunting, let's get real. Deer hunting is a very expensive sport. See how many dollars deer hunting brings into the state of Missouri. Let's also be honest, it's mostly the thrill of the kill, though most hunters won't admit to it. It's the big buck contest. There are no perfect shots, and there are no expert bow hunters.

Unfair competition

MY grandson, who is in the second grade, plays church-sponsored basketball games every Saturday, and every Saturday his team gets beat because they pit the second-graders against third-grade teams who are half a foot to a full foot taller. Every week they lose and they are losing the enthusiasm to even play. There are a number of games played each weak, so why not pit the second grade against second, third against third, fourth against fourth and so on? It would do wonders for their self esteem if they had a fighting chance.
