I don't smoke, and I agree that we need a smoking ban. There should be exceptions made for bars, private clubs and some restaurants. If those places could provide a separate area with sufficient ventilation, I could live with that. As for those of you that seem to think that nonsmokers should quit going to places that allow smoking, think about it. How many bars, clubs and restaurants are there in Cape Girardeau that are smoke-free? The "I got rights" thing is getting worn out.
RECENTLY the Republican Party, the one that always says no, strong-armed the president into keeping a tax cut in effect for the wealthiest Americans, those who are the most able to afford a tax increase. Now the GOP is moaning about the gigantic deficit in the new budget. Wouldn't the deficit be a little smaller without their insistence on extending that tax cuts?
THE proposed budget, submitted by the House Republicans, will have a devastating effect on USDA and other rural programs in Southeast Missouri. This will curtail rural development, rural health and conservation efforts in Missouri's 8th District. There are planned cuts to NRCS, USDA Rural Development and Agriculture Research, to name a few. Representing one of the poorest congressional districts in the U.S., it is inconceivable that Rep. Emerson would support these measures.
GOD bless the man on his bike picking up trash on County Road 618 and the women on Mount Auburn Road. I live on County Road 621 and am sick of seeing the trash people throw out along the road.
